see how in the pic, the wires are the same colors in the same spots? thats a straight-through cable. you need a router or switch to connect to another computer with it. a crossover cable has (usually) green and orange pairs switched, and brown and blue pairs switched. if the colors arent in the same order, its probably a crossover cable

this is ethernet cable correct? 8-wire? how long is the cable and can you compare the ends?

thats normal, svchost contains most of the networking processes, etc...

explorer.exe is windows its self - the taskbar, desktop, and any folders you have open IE is iexplore.exe

did you ever find out which process was taking all the processor time?

did you do a scan for spyware, etc?

mines been on since i got it in November? with the exception of a couple reboots and adding a hard drive. always protected with APC UPS

maybe check your proxy settings? i dont know if that applies to dialup, maybe not...

yea you can, windows messenger can be uninstalled in the control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove windows components, uncheck windows messenger at the bottom of the list, click next, then finish
