Lucky i got the server version while i did, they had beta posted for it a few weeks ago. Works flawlessly

If you have uninstalled and installed some stuff, defrag your drive it is most likely fragged up and that will slow your system down

But nothing beats a format and fresh install for performance boost. But if you are like me i put it of for a long time...last time 6 months

Lag in games is usually caused by a high ping to the server. Different games require different ping times. Ping the server and see what your return is and see if you are losing any packets

What about host software? Any ideas off the top of your head?

like i said before, the isp balks at giving a high upload in basic packages because they do not want peope running servers on their cheapo packages. they say if you want to host sh*t, pay for the traffic.

besides which running a game server might be an infringement of the isps policy if people pay to use it. check to be sure...

I had a look at my isps site and they are getting 1mb up in my araea soon..bout bloody time. I talked to a tech that works for them and he said they discourage running a server on non commercial accounts but as long as you don't constantly go over your soft cap they don't bother ya.

As i would know..been running this game server off and on for a year and not a word.

I am happy with 8 mb down but not 512 up. I need at least 1mb up for my gameserver. Hopefully my ISP (shaw) will get 1mb up in my area soon

We need more info on the computer as far as what it has for hardware. Did you get a manual with it? It should tell you what the light being green means. Do the fans spin when you turn it on or do you just get the light?

The ports scans are a normal event when on the net. There are programs that let script kiddies port scan mass amounts of computers looking for open ports. The Trojans attempting to get in i see very rarely. You could have a trojan in your system sending out and the trojans trying to get in are because of those.

If you haven't scanned in safe mode maybe try that, there might be a tricky little bugger imbedded in your system somewhere.

I haven't read some of this thread cause i am lazy today, but as far as those laptops go i would say the AMD. Reason being athlon runs at lower core speed but is equvalent pentium chips that run 30% faster core speed. Reason is the architechture, the atlons do more work per cycle than the pentium thus able to run at a lower core speed.

Lower core speed means less heat, lower Vcore. Which= less problems and longer battery life. The apple i don't know much about so can't say anything about that.

The game is Lineage 2. It uses java as the core and Mysql for the DB's

I am running a game server that uses Mysql and have been told that if i make another partition at the beginning of my drive and have that for the page file it will be a little faster and stable.

Made the partition but how do i get the page file to use that partition?

I am starting a site that has to do with the NHL, and i want to have some cool graphics for it. So i am going to need to learn how to make graphics. What do you guys use to take a real picture and render it into a graphic?

What is the best all around program for this?

Depends on the game. FPS games under 100-200 is playable, under 100 is preferable.

Games like World Of Warcraft pings up to 300 are playable, but the lower the better. 600 should be unplayable.

I test each proxy before i use it and the elite proxies listed on that site always do what they are supposed to

It really isn't neccesary to pay to be hidden, here is a site that wil tell you all you need to know to be anonymous. Also has a hourly updated list of (Elite) proxies. Elite means high anonymity they do not forward any of your information. Which most proxies do even though they say they are anonymous. I always and behind at least 1 (elite) proxy  and if you try a few out you will find 1 that won't slow your surfing down noticeably
