  1. I know Internet Explorer would do that to me when i was on 56k. I had a host with the Ensim control panel. I download a Backup of my site and it was going at like 300kbps. The file was around 30Mb big. I was like.. holy f*ck, and I did download it.. I notice that happens whenever the file was an "unknown" size. Its pretty cool.

  2. Hey, I've heard worse. They said my modem was too close to my monitor. And I had too little ram because i need 80% free at all times for dsl to run smoothly, yet their minimum is 128Mb, now imagine using 102.4MB or less at all times to run DSL. Now me, i have 640MB of ram, and when i start "windblows" I use around 300 and I cant really minimize that lol.

Such b.s. that im not calling them again to do troubleshooting. They better be installing them radiators tonight since they are scheduled for maintnence at 3AM.

Your download speed : 45415 bps, or 44 kbps.

    A 5.5 KB/sec transfer rate.

Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked?

Your upload speed : 699382 bps, or 682 kbps.

Second day in a row.. yaaayy...

Verizon claims its the weather.. it snowed once and it melted in the same day lol. How can wind or melted snow be causing my internet to be slower? What, the telephone line freezes because its colder than 32 degrees? I dont give a f**k, put damn radiators on the telephone poles for all i care. I want my internet back!

  4. Nymostwanted, ive seen you on dslreports in verizon forums alot :D

Back to topic, If you have access to dsl and its cheaper, then i suggest dsl. Wireless will be a drag if you are having problems and your ISP will clain that there is interference between the tower and you. If you can get 1.5/384 dsl for a lower price, go for it.

  5. Wow... so slow?

    Yay 56K Rules!

    Wait.. 28K Rules!

  6. I don't actually have a wireless connection but as i have heard, if you are in a WiFi "hotspot" you can get speeds from 300-500kbps. The service is free though. The closer you are to the actuall server, the faster your speeds, which makes perfect sense.

  7. Depends on where you live too...

In new york you can expect many more people to be on roadrunner than in FL. That might be a reason why you get high speeds.

But it shouldnt happen with dsl, if my bandwidth is shared, then why not get cable? Its capped higher and faster.

  8. Im finished calling them (phone ran out of batteries lol) and the guy said my lines were "excellent" even though not that long ago, that was the only reason why I wasnt getting my speeds. So in conclusion, Verzion either lied to me or made a mistake. Anyway, the guy told me he did a test on my line and that the line was excellent once again. He did see something wrong with the modem (static or something) so he asked how far my modem was from any devices. I told him it was one foot away from my monitor, he told me the minimum was 4. So then he asked if I had filesharing software. I had to say yes because i was stupid to tell them before, and he had it written down. So he told me its the problem, and i told him its not running at the moment. He said "Its always running". I didnt believe him because my network lights were not in use, and all modem lights were stable (not blinking). I told him that alot of other people are having the same problem in my area. He said, im only one person and that they are only allowed to take care of one person at a time. So i said okay, because i knew he was right. So then he went and asked me how much system resources i had free. I asked how to check it, and he said go to task manager and check the ram (he should have just said ram, not system resources). I had 320ram used and 320 free. He said that was 50% used and 50% free. He also said that the minimum for verizon to run good is 70% free. How much ram to they expect me to get? He said its not a matter of ram, its a matter of spyware. So i told him (Like an above post mentioned) that I reformatted my HD last week and that I ran a Virus and Spyware check 2 days ago. And i told him it did find something. But then i said it was only cookies lol. I told him that when I start up windows, around 50% ram is used, as my windows is set to use up as much as it wants to so that i can access programs faster. He said, theres my problem. He also said that i shouldnt try to "tweak" windows because ill end up breaking it in the end (My windows isnt broken... just loads programs faster). Oh i forgot to mention that he said since i was 10,100 feet away from the CO and that usually thats just an estimate and i should always add an extra 2000 feet, i didnt qualify for 3/768. Yet, i am getting the speeds throughout most of the day. Then i told him that it might be a problem in the CO or something. I added that one person said that the network might be overloaded (when i called in 2 days ago) and he said that they guarantee upto 3mbps, and that if everyone comes home from work and uses the internet, i should expect this. He said that Cable is shared and thats why its slow (he said that before he said that the dsl is gonna be slow too if alot of people are onlnie). So then i went on and said that "DSL is a dedica..." he cut me off and said that i DO NOT have a T1 or T3 running into my house (he said through my phoneline, but neither t1 nor t3 run through phonelines, i dont think so anyway). He said again, that im guaranteed upto 3mbps. Then he was talking about all the things bad about me, such as filesharing software, the modem being too close to my monitor, too little ram, and my phone made a noise (the one it usually does before it turns off) and i said "Once sec, my phone is.." and it turned me off.

But this guy, i have to give credit to. He was one of, if not the most smartest person i have ever talked to from Verizon. I will wait and see what happens, i wont downgrade my speed.
