  1. ive watched the cnet reviews and stuff..and yeh the accelerometer is slow...and the interface isnt as fast as it could be...but im wanting it for basically what all the pros are on it...the cons arent really anything i care about...at least wahts listed on evey review i've read....

and the tactile response for the screen is a good idea in my mind...i've touched one and played on a display model before, but never USED one.

so...what other touch screen phones that can do mobile web, email, and all that for the premium plan at verizon are good?

    just trying to get info

Its not that the accelerometer is slow, its the OS its crap. They took the standard blackberry OS and added touch features.

    The Pro:

Its got good email, if you have an exchange server.

    The web browser is alright.

    Good Looking Screen

The bold is a much better blackberry.

If you want a touch screen phone version isn't the place to be. Their other ok touch screen phone is the Omnia but even that has big issues, (Windows Mobile) and the touch screen isn't really good because the OS isn't designed for a touch screen so you really have to use a stylus to do things.

Keep in mind if you go with the dare its not a smartphone, its a "dumb" phone so the email isn't really that great and the web browser is pretty much a simple WAP browser so things don't get displayed correctly.

  2. The title is kinda misleading.

If you look at the average FPS there for a core i7 with WARP running crysis its only 7.36 FPS. Thats not playable.

WARP is designed to allow people to take advantage of DX10 who don't have a DX10 video card, or have a integrated card with no 3D acceleration. This doesn't kill graphics cards, it allows them to do everything in DX10 with out having to worry about if the end user has a DX10 graphics card.

  3. Yeah, except for digital cameras. Canon and Pentax still rule!

Anyway, do all HDTVs have that HDTV logo? I have seen several Bravia units in my area but they don't have that HDTV mark. I am really not familiar with TVs, just wondering. The resolution of that TV is I think, 1440x900. Is that an HDTV?

    Pentax LOL...

1440x900 is higher then HD, which stats at 1280x720 but its lower then full HD 1920x1200. And if you are special you can go even higher then that.

  4. I am not sure if this is still an issue.. I did some MX background searches... you do not have a MX record currently.. at least that I can see.

Well that would defiantly cause a problem

  5. For an extra $100 you can upgrade the Dell to the same processor and upgrade the display to 1440x900. And as far as RAM goes, Apple states "More memory (RAM) increases overall performance and enables your computer to run more applications at the same time. All MacBook Pro models support up to 4 gigabytes of RAM." Bus speed is not that big a deal. But they also charge an extra $150 to upgrade to 4 gigs. And if you wanted the same 320 GB harddrive, it brings the total to $2249 which is $1100 more than the Dell. That's twice the price.

I can't argue the OS debate because we have no experience with Mac, but we have both used Vista. So I will concede there.

Is there anything else? I mean, we really can't justify $1100 for a backlit keyboard, an extra video card and an aluminum case. Kinda reminds me of the Kia vs Land Rover commercial a couple of years back where all the Land Rover could offer was more cupholders.  :haha:   :haha:

I don't have a ton of time right this second, but you can not upgrade the dell to the processor in the macbook pro. The macbook uses a new processor from intel with a 1066Mhz FSB, and the dell uses a older processor. $150 bucks for 4GB of ram is about right, its 125 at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148191 DDR3 ram is still expensive.

And the screen is not the same even if you upgrade to 1440 x 900. The screen on the Macbook is a real high quality display significantly better then the screen on the dell.

As mudmanc said the best thing to do would be go to check them both out. If you have a bestbuy near you they have both dell and apple now, so you can check them out in the same store.

  6. OMFG......... thanks allot, now I have wasted a perfectly good time of silence by LMAO.  :haha: You know, it never fails, that almost always comes up in a conversation when talking with someone that has never touched a mac, but read it somewhere, or someone told them that you can't right click. Even if you couldn't , so what !  :haha:

It just shows that people will believe anything they hear no matter how stupid it sounds.

Lately the best one I've gotten from people is "you can't do anything on a mac, they suck"  :haha: I say what ever, and pull up expose, spaces, or a windows program in vmware fusion and they are like "WTF is that"? Then they are curious but come up with some stupid excuse as to why they still suck.

  7. Yeah, I hate the avatars.  Its just, stupid.  360ers aren't 7 year olds.  Most of us are teen's to young adults, who could care less about these stupid avatars.

They may be in there teens, but they act like they are 7 years old. I hate playing online most of the time because they are so fucking dumb.

  8. So what do you all think about the new Xbox 360 interface?

I'm ok with it, it looks pretty good, some things are a bit harder to find but that is probably because i'm so use to the old interface. The only thing I don't really like is the stupid fake ass mii thing's. Couldn't Microsoft come up with anything else but this crap they copied from the wii. Besides the fact that you can't make one that doesn't look gay, they are always like dancing or sleeping.

  9. My brother-in-law is looking for a laptop and doesn't mind spending the money, he just doesn't like to piss it away. Considering it costs $900 more, has a smaller hard drive, 1/2 the memory and a slightly smaller display, where is the advantage in buying the Mac over the Dell? We would really appreciate educated opinions on this.

    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTI4MDI

    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dydohu5&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=features~laptops_great_deals

The mac doesn't have a smaller display, they are both 15.4in. The macbook pro has a higher resolution display 1440x900 vs 1280x800, and its LED backlit, you have to upgrade to one of the higher end displays to get that on the dell. The macbook pro has a much faster processor the the dell, as well it has faster DDR3 1066mhz ram vs ddr2 667 in the dell, depending on what he is doing, more ram, or faster ram may benefit him. The dell has a single 8600GT, the macbook pro has a 9400m intergraded graphics card and a 9600GT graphics card is it, so when he is not in need of high performance graphics for a game he can turn off the 9600gt for better battery life.

The macbook also has a multi-touch trackpad, and a backlit keyboard. The trackpad is just awesome, and if he will use it with the lights off a lot he will actually be able to see the keyboard. I like the way the dell looks, but I personally think the macbook pro is in a entirely different league in the looks department. It's also made completely out of aluminium.

    Dell Pros:

    Cheaper

More Ram (Depending on what you do, this may be better)

    Bigger Hard Drive

    Finger Print Reader

    HDMI Port

    Macbook Pros:

    Faster Processor

    Better Screen

Faster Ram (Depending on what you do, this may be better)

    Better Graphics Card

    Multi-touch Tackpad, backlit Keyboard

    Display Port

Can run both OS X and Windows at the same time.

Which ever one he buys he is getting a really good notebook, but if he doesn't mind paying a little bit more, and making the switch to OS X you really can't beat the macbook pro, you get multi-touch trackpad, and the screen is a hell of a lot better then the one on the dell.

I won't go into why I think the OS is better, because some idiot will come in and say you can't even right click. And I really don't even feel like dealing with that.  :haha:

  10. You guys considering removing that limit, and upgrading the port? Also I have gotten 105 Mbps from the testmy.net mirror before...

Edit: Its a 1000 mbps, and the upload test is to small to show speeds over 50 mbps upload...

Mirrors do not work, they are down, so don't try to test from a mirror its not a real test.At the moment the planet does not offer a 1 gbps connection 100mbps is the fastest they offer so for now, its stuck at 100mbps. Hopefully when ca3le gets mirrors back up we can get my softlayer server working, and I have a 1 gbps port on mine.

  11. $190 bucks for 17in LCD is expensive.

has anyone changed the back light on a TFT monitor ?

No, and your not going to do it. The backlight and panel are 1 part. You can't really pull them apart with out breaking them. And it would cost you more to replace that because you would need the exact same one then it would for a new monitor.

  12. Boosting cable speed on FAST services is NOT possible past certain speeds and setups.

Someone wrote . Well, not quite so...

Someone should also tell that nothing can be done if you have one regular PC connected to cable service >20Mbit/s.

You will NEVER get 90% of the advertised speed, never. No matter what kind of modem or the rest of your rig you have.

If you could plug your PC directly to main fiber you still wouldn't get the full speed.

That is because "PC" can handle fairly small amount of data internally.

In other words : The maximum "speed" of PC:s data handling is lower than the speed of the cable input.

Even if you own fairly hi-end PC (will cost more than pocket money..) you will never get the full (DOWNLOAD) speed.

There is nothing you can do about it ---> No need (no rational reason) to buy >20Mbit/s service.

The full speed of fast cable service is in use when you have 2 or more HIGH QUALITY PC:s, for example, doing downloading.

This is the only way to benefit from services over 20Mbit/s. (And you don't have to tweak...).

P.S. Well assembled PC (made from quality components..) can handle data maybe at the speed of 20..30Mbit/s MAX

(depends greatly what hardware / software is used..).

Ok everything you said is completely wrong.

You can get well over 90% advertised speed. I get over 100% of my advertised speed on my 6 mbps connection at home. I have a 30 mbps connection at my office, and we get 32 mbps, the server I own has a 1 gbps and can push data out to the internet to another server at 998.4 mbps,  IDK maybe i'm a little fucked up or something but I think that over 90% . Some one correct me if im wrong. lol

You go into a ton of bull shit there which is actually funny, I don't see how you could have wrote this when you were sober.

PC's have been capable of handling data over 20 or 30 mbps for many years. Do you have any idea how fast a modern 7200 RPM hard drive is? Here is a hint, its faster then 20 or 30mbps.

  13. this is simple. Take a ethernet cable from the last port on the verizon router and plug it into the wan on the linksys. Put the linksys in automatic DHCP, and turn the firewall off on the linksys, and make sure UNPN is on.

After that you should have a internet connection on the linksys router. Plug your xbox into it and there should be no problem playing. if you do have an issue connecting to games, Put the linksys router in the DMZ in the verizon router.
