a RT is a remote termanel. (basically a DLSAM thats not in the CO) to get out of the contract your probally going to have to pay a fee, and none of that matters
dont even waste your time get the ATT DSL. 8900 its with in the distace, most likely there is a rt with in 3000 feet of you. you will like it much better then the satalite.

like swimmer said it depends were the short was, but the most likely one of the sticks is still good. also the processor and anything else you had pluged into the board is probally still good.
