wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 I right now have Road Runner 5mb down 384 up. I think this is Road Runner Basic? Well in my area Road Runner Premium is 6mb down and 512 up. Is it worth it for an extra $15 a month?
disturbed Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 cant really help you there - only you can decide if the extra speed is worth to you
wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 Well I need the upload speed for online gaming on my 360 since 384 is crap according to people on the 360 forums.
richcornucopia Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 I think its pretty expensive but I subscribe to the premium because I want the extra upload. (72.95 a month 8/512) If you think you need, or just want more upload and download then try it out for a couple months because you don't have to sign a contract for rr. wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 Wow that's stupid why is Premium service in my area only 6mn down and not 8mb like your guys?
richcornucopia Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 I dont know, have you verfied that it is indeed 6 and not 8? Also what does premium cost in your area?
wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 No idea. I go to www.timewarnercable.com and click services and go to Premium and it says 8mb down. Then I type in my zip code and it says 6mb download. I think it is $15 extra a month so it would be like uh $60 a month.
richcornucopia Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 Maybe they haven't upgraded in your area so the lines can't support it.
amc11890 Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 U prob dont qualify for the 6mb service so the best they can get u is 6mb in you particular location
wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 Wow this is stupid. I'm not paying that much extra for a little more of nothing. I wish I could just upgrade my upload! 384kb upload isn't good for online gaming I don't think.
richcornucopia Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 384 is just fine for gaming if you aren't going to be running a server.
wyantm06 Posted February 13, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 Ok so I am fine if I don't host a game? Will I be able to hold up in a game of 32 people with my connection?
richcornucopia Posted February 13, 2006 CID Share Posted February 13, 2006 I think your upload will be sufficient for online gaming since you won't be hosting. You should try playing some games online now with 384 upload and see if it works the way you want it to.

FallowEarth Posted February 18, 2006 CID Share Posted February 18, 2006 If you are seeing your cap of 384 Kbps upload currently, then you will likely see the cap if it is 512 Kbps. Think of it this way: is a 33% increase in your upload speed worth the cost?
