Sharky2006 Posted February 26, 2006 CID Share Posted February 26, 2006 I setup a static IP on my single home computer (no network). Should I have done this or should I have it setup as "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"? Does it matter that I don't have a home network or am I totally not making any sense. Please help.
richcornucopia Posted February 26, 2006 CID Share Posted February 26, 2006 So you are directly connected to the modem? Does the package you have with your isp include a static ip? You should be find obtaining the address automatically either way.

Sharky2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 26, 2006 I have a DSL Modem and what I did was go to Run, CMD, cd, then typed in ipconfig /all and found my settings to be the following: C:>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : DFCV8Z51 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : ms.com Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ms.com Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connecti on Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0C-F1-E9-44-51 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.47 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 71.250.0.12 Then what I did was set this information up as my static ip. Should I have just left it alone?
php Posted February 26, 2006 CID Share Posted February 26, 2006 It makes no difference... It's probably easier to leave it on Obtain Automatically though
