chd176 Posted December 25, 2004 CID Share Posted December 25, 2004 I am having a problem with my uploads...on both of my wired PC's (one has SP1 the other has SP2 I thought this may have been an issue so I uninstalled SP2 from one pc) before and after installing SP2 on both machines my upload speeds would test around :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 188 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Upload Speed is: 23 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 3 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 44.52 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=P5GY91KBR I am supposed to be on 1500/256 however on my laptop (wireless PCMCIA card) I get these speeds for my upload :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 213 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Upload Speed is: 26 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 4 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 39.38 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=FIWSM9WA8 I test the same for the download speeds and I am curious as to why my wireless PC test faster than my wired for upload speeds...I am using a westell 6100 PPPoE connected to a Linksys 802.11b router...mabey someone knows something I don't...thanks for the help
xs1 Posted December 25, 2004 CID Share Posted December 25, 2004 on 256 ya, you seem to be missing about 10 kb/s upstream. Id call your ISP and have them check your signals, because on the user end their is next to nothing we can do with our upload, tweaking wise. chd176 Posted December 25, 2004 Author CID Share Posted December 25, 2004 I just tried to use a bandwith monitor (NetPerSec) and when I upload some files onto my site then I upload at around 215k or so...which is normal for my connection...any idea why my wired pc's test slower on the upload portion? xs1 Posted December 25, 2004 CID Share Posted December 25, 2004 May be bad wiring. Any kind of bends or kinks in the wires, or even cheap wiring can cause loss.
chd176 Posted December 25, 2004 Author CID Share Posted December 25, 2004 hmmm I will get some more expensive cat 5 later and try that...but shouldn't that also affect my download speeds? As I found out it's not actually my speeds that are lower on my wired pc's it is just how testmy.net displays them with wired.

jakop92 Posted December 26, 2004 CID Share Posted December 26, 2004 Your speeds might not reach the exact point that your ISP tells you. My ISP (Sbc yahoo dsl) gave me a plan varing from 384 kbps to 1500 kbps down, and i usually get 1300 mbps. But thats fine with me! Speeds can vary because of many reasons, so unless your running REALLY slow,i think you should be fine
VanBuren Posted December 26, 2004 CID Share Posted December 26, 2004 May be bad wiring. Any kind of bends or kinks in the wires, or even cheap wiring can cause loss. I agree, it can also be a driver issue on the wired pc, i wouldnt worry about it much cos the diffrense is small. try this guide https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=605.0 also try another browser good luck VanBuren
