Lantom Posted December 26, 2004 CID Share Posted December 26, 2004 Hi All: First, Merry Xmas plus one. Here are my up and down sppeds. Note that this is on a networks with 4 computers and an xbox. The speeds you see are from my wireless connect!!!! And one more thing, great web site guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 6731 Kbps about 6.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 822 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 120 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 1.25 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=OH5FXMM21 :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 601 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Upload Speed is: 73 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 11 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 14.03 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=NXG7AD3FC
RTB Posted December 26, 2004 CID Share Posted December 26, 2004 Wow, incredible download for wireless and your upload is nice too. What are your advertised speeds?
Lantom Posted December 26, 2004 Author CID Share Posted December 26, 2004 Well, I'm on COX premium. I agree these are great wireless speeds. I'm using D-link products and it's 108Mps, I have high gain antennas on all the remote stuff. Also, just a note for people that might not know. I've had three of my own cable modems and although people can argue about who's is best the real issue is make SURE your modems are DOCSIS 2.0, My speeds increased by 40%!!!! just changing modems from a DOCSIS 1.1 to a 2.0 system!! bigw Posted January 4, 2005 CID Share Posted January 4, 2005 This is mine. My isp for christmas decided that they would make low speed and high speed DSl ( i got the low end now). :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 366 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 45 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 7 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 22.76 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=0EUCITYXP I was almost triple that. Sad part is i have three times the machine now. So now I am even more bummed due to the fact that I am a big time gamer. Maybee I should spend the extra $10 so i can go from 500k to 2mb a sec. Sad is me to my isp
VanBuren Posted January 4, 2005 CID Share Posted January 4, 2005 hey Lantom and welcome to the forum thats some speed, way above your cap downstream, what tweaks are you running? also test this and see what you get on 12 MB test https://testmy.net/d_load.php?ni=1&tt=1&s=12160&st=st&ta=&top=&align=center& VanBuren
VanBuren Posted January 4, 2005 CID Share Posted January 4, 2005 Maybee I should spend the extra $10 so i can go from 500k to 2mb a sec I would go for it, but it depends on what you using your connection to, 500k is enough for playing games, in games low latency / packetloss is the most important VanBuren
MICROWAVE Posted January 4, 2005 CID Share Posted January 4, 2005 For 10 bucks if your a gamer thats a cheap price to pay 4more speed, of course thats easy 4me 2say I'm not the one who has 2pay the bill.....LOL.....anyway I agree its well worth it no matter what you use the net 4 Microwave
Lantom Posted January 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 5, 2005 Hey Vanburen: Here is the download of the 12mg file. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 5308 Kbps about 5.3 Mbps (tested with 12160 KB) Download Speed is:: 648 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 95 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 1.58 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=XBFGDRW88 Again, this is still over the wireless and I made no effort to clean the system prior to testing. Honestly, one of the reasons my downloads are fast is my system. I'm running a P4 3.0C but it's clocked at 4 on Vapor Cooling. Also big memory cache on HDD's insures no delay as everything dumps to 256M Cache controller then to HDDs I suspect if I did wire direct and cleaned things up I could get 6-8mps consistently I had one 7 mps already before I became a member. take care and let me know what ya think. The main factors are your true cap, tweak settings, and network hardware. Unless your system is prehistoric, it can handle such speed.
Lantom Posted January 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 5, 2005 I know, you think I'm crazy..... I have this P-4 on vapor, a P-4 1.8 & a P4 1.1M. They are all on the same network and behind the same router. They fall off in download speeds corralated to processor speed.... Test it for yourself, if you change the clock 20% on your system you should see a lower average. LD
Lantom Posted January 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 5, 2005 Hey: To add to what I said, the CPU usage on my systems during the 12mg download was between 20-40% during the whole process. I'm sure with that kind of CPU utilization speed matters!!!!! LD
VanBuren Posted January 5, 2005 CID Share Posted January 5, 2005 the reason i gave you the link to 12 MB test is, thats its been proved several times that 2992 KB test is not really accurate above 5 Mbps, i PM CA3LE about it lets see whats happen. my suggestion is that if you score above 5 Mbps on 2992KB test you get auto forward to the 12 MB test VanBuren

You paid way too much for a system, or have parents who must realy love you,
Lantom Posted January 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 5, 2005 .S1 First, it's unfortunate that you feel the need to be an ass...... 1) I'm not an "expert" like you on systems, but I am smart enough to read when the numbers change. The information I gave you about the speed drop is real. Perhaps your just not sharp enough to know what makes it happen or to devise a way to make them all run at the same speed.. Try saying I don't know rather than just trying to rip members!!! 2) Look at VanBurens post right before yours. It's clear and tells my WHY he asked me to test 12Mg and gives me the logic behind it. Perhaps you can have him help you with your writing. 3) Yes my parents do love me thanks for noticing. 4) I don't "fish" for complements in computer forums as all to often some 19 year old decides to go heals becuase he's well 19!!!!! My god grant you age and wisdom soon..... LD

Try saying I don't know rather than just trying to rip members!!! But it's sad when you try to see a link between numbers that simply do not have a link between them. This hasn't been the first time someone claims that computer speed matters quite a bit and then starts bragging on what he/she/it has. You just don't know, because you're new to this.I've seen plenty of newcomers trying to pass off their 'facts' and theories as true on stuff that only has one right answer. It gets worse when the newbie tries even more desperately to prove the experts wrong. Don't go this way, it will get you banned.
MICROWAVE Posted January 10, 2005 CID Share Posted January 10, 2005 Yeah a footwarmer rig is cool and all but it aint gonna make you the fastest gun in the west.....or anywhere for that matter although my youthful friends are in point of fact correct in their statements regarding where the "speed" comes from the fastest speed I ever posted from here was on an much older gateway machine running 98se and the reason I was able to do that is my ISP didnt have me capped for a few months, this goes back to August of 2003. Now with a much "faster" machine I have lower speeds only because my ISP got tighter with bandwidth.............. it just aint fair but it is reality ........ Im the oldest fart that post regularly on this site............... But there is no doubt that you have a very, very nice setup........ but I still have seen .s1 post higher scores with his emachine.....go figure...... I hope you will keep visiting the site and tell your friends about us, thats how this thing works....... :) Im sure you can bring much to the site.............
