huffman142 Posted March 27, 2006 CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 Hello, We just had the Direcway (or now "HughesNet") DW7000 installed today. Speeds are good, testing over 700k earlier this afternoon. We cannot get file transfers over AIM to work properly. When trying to receive a file, it says the connection has been dropped by the host. We can't send anything out either. This was something we were able to do on dial-up. I was wondering if there are any host settings that I need to change? I am having no trouble connecting to AIM. Just the file transfers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott
TimPawlak Posted March 27, 2006 CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 Well, It could by multiple things. First thing you do is check your firewall to make sure that isnt blocking anything. Also scan your pc for any type of virus or adware/spyware
huffman142 Posted March 27, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 i turned firewall off and it still wouldn't work. i'm on apple, which lessens the chance of a virus, and i just came from a dial-up connection that allowed me to send files yesterday! so....i'm thinking it has something to do with the host/port settings, but i'm really not certain. richcornucopia Posted March 27, 2006 CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 Yea all DirecWay users go through a proxy I believe so that could be filtering out and blocking some things like aim transfers.
huffman142 Posted March 27, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 thanks for the replies. is there any way around this??? it is not THAT big of a problem, but i did frequently use that feature of AIM to send files to friends and stuff. richcornucopia Posted March 27, 2006 CID Share Posted March 27, 2006 Im not sure of a way around it, but there should be some other way for you to transfer files. Some type of p2p maybe, or you could upload them to a free file hosting site.
php Posted March 28, 2006 CID Share Posted March 28, 2006 AIM file transfer on DirecWay works sometimes. I have had it work before, but generally it doesn't work. Receiving files has worked more often than sending, and if the person you're sending to is behind a firewall or NAT, chances are it won't work. I would recommend FTP for transferring files, although you would need a server that you could both access. Email works as well for files under 10MB. Bird Fan Posted March 28, 2006 CID Share Posted March 28, 2006 It works for me... but I use GAIM rather than the plain old AIM.
