FallowEarth Posted May 10, 2006 CID Share Posted May 10, 2006 If I understand you correctly, you are looking to set your connection to a speed slower than it currently is. Alright. Well, I believe Cablenut is more than capable of accomplishing this. All you need to do is select a file from on of Van Buren's custom settings which is set to your desired speed. This should reduce your DefaultReceiveWindow, DefaultSendWindow, MSS, etc. thus limiting your connection. If you choose not to use a custom file, you can set these values manually to whatever you like. Check out our guide on cablenut: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 Maybe we'll set up a Make It Slower... board, just for you BTW, welcome to the forum. cholla Posted May 10, 2006 CID Share Posted May 10, 2006 hm. don't ask questions? sounds like he's planning to slow down someone elses comp... I'm with resopalrabotnick I want to know more of the why do you want the slow down? I doubt you could get it down to 20kpbs without it being dial-up.Or that anyone could help you do that. I haven't used a bandwidth manager but it might be able to.If it's someone elses computer they should notice if you add software. They will also probably check their cablenut settings. To give you the correct cablenut information if someone wants to we would need to know what OS you are using. Now I will give you some help I wouldn't give any direct registry hacks but since cable nut is easy to change back this is my suggestion.go to this site: http://j79zlr.com/ Use their analyser for your OS for cablenut settings.I would suggest using the dial-up settings. This might change the MTU down to 576 & will use a smaller RWIN.& that shuld slow it some.Turn up any security settings in the brower, firewall,av,& spyware programs.Make sure these run at start up with as much of them running as you can.The same with any other resource hog software run it at start up.The more programs you have running the slower the pc will be.If you have any RAM freeing soft ware turn it down as much as possible where it really doesn't do anything. Now for the warning you shouldn't do this unless it's your PC it is wrong to do this to someone else.I hope they have their software &OS password protected so you can't change even these settings.
