houkouonchi Posted May 11, 2006 CID Share Posted May 11, 2006 Any servers on good connections that have high send buffers? I am using linux with a web100 patched server, in chicago, to nitro.ucsc.edu i get over 80 megabits down usually from chicago -> california. to testmy.net I get: :::.. BigRooster Posted May 11, 2006 CID Share Posted May 11, 2006 I have the same problem at my school. Cant get anything faster than 25mbit down and 7mbit up on TMN servers, but elsewhere I can get high 30's for download an high teens for upload. Think it could be your settings aren't the best? xs1 Posted May 11, 2006 CID Share Posted May 11, 2006 Whats the point of testing the speed from your dedicated server.. its a friggin dedicated server of course the connections fast O_o..
Swimmer Posted May 12, 2006 CID Share Posted May 12, 2006 Alright this might answer some questions.. For the first post.. You could be using level3 all the way from Chicago to San Jose then to where the server is located in Santa Cruse... There is an OC-192 running from chicago to denver then into San Jose.. From my tracert that is the route that they are taking me and I am in the northern suburbs.. Running to texas might not be as fast as there isnt a great way to get down to Texas on a super high speed line via Level3 with out going through ATL.. That could be part of the problem.. BTW welcome to the forum and FDC Servers.net one of their POPs is Level3.. For the second question.. This is the most accurate testing site on the internet that I know of.. http://www.testmy.net/tools/the_bench_version2.php .. At Purdue University I was on a OC-1 or OC-3 to indy it look like and the fastest that I was able to pull was about 36,000Kbps.. Remember on a college campus it is going to very a lot! there is a ton of p2p traffic and the network is changing every minute.

houkouonchi Posted May 12, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 12, 2006 that test nitro.ucsc.edu isnt accurate and i can make it say i have 80 mb upload whe i have 2 hmm, its accurate on all the computers I have tested, especially when you use the command line client, it defnitely seems accurate, and I use other tools which agree with the speeds like gkrellm, iptraf, etc.
