granpa Posted October 31, 2006 CID Share Posted October 31, 2006 I hope granpa is getting better uploads, but as his graph shows his average 200k up? Been out of town since Sunday, just back for the night and off again. My uploading was acting weird the past day or so. tommie gorman Posted December 15, 2006 Author CID Share Posted December 15, 2006 By the way fikester, that high D/L you saw earlier was done previous to this. And remember I only have the 50 U/L advertised speed. So the 1500+ D/L was in line with this. (and you too bird fan, so no burst speed since U/L is not a burst) Both speeds were tripled that night. fikester Posted December 15, 2006 CID Share Posted December 15, 2006 Show me a screen shot of a decent size file download when the download is almost complete.....your saying it should be around 180kB/s on the transfer speed? Why is it when you run another test immediately after the 1.5 connection the rest of the test will show around 1000 connection speed? in fact run 3 test one right after the other.......without rebooting, clearing the cache etc. The test will show again around 1000. Myself don't care what you post or think your speeds are, but feel bad for a new Hughes customer thinking a home plan should be getting 1500 or better download speeds, when its simply not so. My first speed test normally shows around 1200-1300 also....the following test will match a transfer speed I get on a actual file download, around 1000 or maybe 132/kBs None of the Hughes modems 6000 and above will get the 1500 on a home plan....sorry

He really loves his "burst", which he can do, but I just don't think he should be bragging about it. I'm kind of sick of his "500/50" gimmick he has going, it's already old and I read the forums about once every 3-5 days. A burst really isn't your true speed, so why gloat about it? Actually I do most of my time after the kids go to bed. So that is the most important time for me. I usually am spending my peak time hours with the kids making them important. Seems a much better way to spend those dead hours. So in a way it works out fine for me. And much better than dial-up. At least till something better comes along. Both residential plans for the DW6000 were, and still are 500/50 plans. Now, I always saw 1Mbps, but my plan was still 500/50. But that was back when Hughes was more honest about what they could offer. Its no different than not being able to get the ProPlus plan for a DW7000, because that service plan does NOT match the DW7000, only the HN7000s. Also, the problem with Testmy's first test always being faster than retesting is a problem with Testmy, it's been happening since the facelift earlier this year....so in other words, I agree with you about the testing, just not for the same reason, it's not a speed burst. tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2006 Author CID Share Posted December 17, 2006 Actually fikester I thought it was 700/128, until ghostmaster said it was the other way around. 1030 is my actual D/L speed, or 135. Other than that, my U/L is never the same. It always varies. Bird fan started a lot of crap about a year ago, so with many senior members on here I finally got it worked out to the speeds I just said[1030/?]. Although it did burst considerably for a while at the first of this year, and they still burst some in the early morning. Which D/L speeds did agree with on short D/L's under 3 megs. I guess it actually sounds like no one on hughes dway should be posting scores unless they can hit their real score. Which mine seldom does, and I would assume others seldom do either. Like I said satelite sucks. And all the testing again in the world will not change that. I see ghostmaster was already here.

tommie gorman Posted December 17, 2006 Author CID Share Posted December 17, 2006 Why don't you start with a true definition of true internet speeds? And with more than one reference. And not your own words.
ghostmaster Posted December 17, 2006 CID Share Posted December 17, 2006 None of us ever really know what are speed is, because it is CONSTANTLY changing with Hughes. You can test 20 times in a row, and you might get a 200k difference between some of them. Not to mention, the fact that there are so many variables with Hughes. All the different Sats, Xpondrs, gateways, and 2 different NOCs. The only thing testing does, is give an accurate speed rating for users on the same gateway. One persons experience with Hughes will most certainly be different than everyone elses. So what the F*ck am I talking about? The point is, if you want an accurate speed test with Hughes, just download part of a big file from MS or something because unless you are on the same gateway as someone else, argueing about speed bursts or true speeds is pointless.
