i've heard my good things about this board and how it helped many Net-izens improve their conenction speed.. maybe you could help me with my dilemma when it comes to my connection ..

OS: WinXP Home Edition SP2

ISP: myDestiny Cable Internet (Philippines)

Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall v5.5

AntiVirus: NOD32

the advertised speed of my ISP ranges from 256-512kbps, uncapped, which means i can reach 1mbps or higher .. but the thing is, i have to use a download manager to achieve that speed .. when i use the "Save Target As ..." option of Opera, the speed would range between 15kB/s-30kB/s ..

on SpeedGuide.Net's TCP/IP Analyzer, here's the result:

hey and welcome to the forum p0rnrh3tt

speedmeters in browsers is usually not very accurate. You can test this by open taskmanager network graph, and see if it picks up the speed. The reason is that when clicking "save as" browser starts downloading a part of the file before you even clicked "ok". That make speedmeter to jump since it calculate how much you downloaded and split it in time. To use this type of measurement, you need a large file eg 30 MB and download it completely.

your RWIN is very large for that type of bandwidth, i suggest you try cablenut and use

I don't know if this will help or not, but if you're using Opera, try testing with either Firefox or Internet Explorer.  I know when I used Opera for testing it would give me really low speeds, then when I switched back to Firefox and IE, my speeds were fine again.

As VanBuren says try a bigger file because when you use a small one all the connection does is starts and seconds later it stops it dosent have enought time to reach its peak/maximum speed using a large file will max it out and hopefully give you an accurate test.

p0rnrh3tt use a bigger test file as van suggested, use IE to test as well if you can. if your advertised is between 256-512Kbps you are getting that. so your internet is fine. The reason you can get more when you use a download manager, is becuase it opens up more connections to the webserver. But most of the time those speeds you see there are fake, there not hte actually speed you are getting.

but having an uncapped speed, does that mean my speed would be inconsistent and that explains i i sometimes get an mpbs connection?

The fact of the matter is....if your advertised range is where you say it is, even if it is uncapped, it is unlikely you will ever come close to reaching your highest advertised speed, being that you are using a cable connection.  Your bandwidth is shared with all of your neighbors, and if your neighbor is Pirus the music Pirate, you are screwed.  Look in your network neighborhood...you will see all of your neighbors in there.  I recommend using Internet Explorer to test your download speeds, but not simply using its download utility.  I have very accurate testing from www.speakeasy.net/speedtest.  Resetting or changing your TCP/IP recieve window will do very little for a slower broadband connection.  If you want to play around a little, remove any firewalls - software or hardware - and see if that helps.  My connection is about 100kbps (12.2kBps) slower with a firewall up due to overhead...but it is worth it to me.  Also, I know that at least 75 % of the time, when I have a client complaining about slow internet speeds over a broadband connection....it is a simple computer problem.  Clear your cache, cookies, history, disk cleanup, and defragment your hard drive.  Uninstall any programs you don't use(it is easy for them to build up).  Only have critical processes run at startup.  Remember, your internet connection is only as fast as your computer...a computer overwhelmed with processes will surely show "slow" internet speeds.  I say try that before messing with any TCP/IP recieve window settings, etc.

I emailed myDestiny, and they insisted on using their own SPeedtest..

But it's giving connection rather than speed. so misleading..
