Hi, Linda here.. thought I would post this one as its a good representation of the nice things a change in OS and Cable modem can do. I am running Windows Vista RTM and a normal home connection.

I got the increased speed when I added Digital Voice and a new Modem/phone thingy.  (not to shabby for $33 a month...)

one might even say.. It's Comcastic!    *koff*     :grin2:

Welcome both of you...I pay 45 and it ranges sometimes less than that...guess that is what happens when you are through 200 feet of cable jacked into your neighbors cable drop huh?  :tickedoff:

ok, I am sure that time of day factors into this. If you view a cable connection like one HUGE token Ring network you have a decent idea of what happens.  Imagine a large circle of cable. machines are connected all around it, with a server at one end. The data has to bypass all the machines to make it to the server, and back again. therefore the fewer machines online, the faster the speed.  As your neighbors log into their cable connections they are taking up a bit of that bandwidth.

I am also pretty sure that my OS has to contribute again. Windows Vista is set up to use the new IPv6 protocols.

my morning test at 5:11 am:
