subjective Posted January 9, 2007 CID Share Posted January 9, 2007 ok, I am sure that time of day factors into this. If you view a cable connection like one HUGE token Ring network you have a decent idea of what happens. Imagine a large circle of cable. machines are connected all around it, with a server at one end. The data has to bypass all the machines to make it to the server, and back again. therefore the fewer machines online, the faster the speed. As your neighbors log into their cable connections they are taking up a bit of that bandwidth. I am also pretty sure that my OS has to contribute again. Windows Vista is set up to use the new IPv6 protocols. my morning test at 5:11 am: Your connection is: 19612 Kbps or 19.6 Mbps You downloaded at: 2394 kB/s You are running: 342 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 0.43 second(s) Member Ident:Username:subjective CompID:221972046 Test Time:: 2007/01/09 - 6:12am Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506) Test ID: 0MX8GNP24 (if this is a screenshot go to testmy.net to see if this is fake) Diagnosis ^info^: Awesome! 20% + : 254.14 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) This was tested from a 12160 kB file and took 5.079 seconds to complete
