tommie gorman Posted November 27, 2006 CID Share Posted November 27, 2006 Welcome to the forum OK, how long have you been with Hughes? If not long I would say you have been the victim of a bad install. If very long at all probably FAP'd. Meaning you used up your allotment of bandwidth downloading and are on the slow part till your bucket fills back up. Maybe a little more info. Try testing at hughes site, I know one time I was getting under 200kbps. so I tested at the worst times of day and called them. They decided to give me my help immediately. For you they will too. So use their test site for a few days and give them a call. 200kbps. is the lowest to be guaranteed to us. Good luck.
wes5458 Posted November 28, 2006 Author CID Share Posted November 28, 2006 Thanks for the welcome I have been with hughesnet for 14 months. I have been subject to fap before but lately I haven't just because I don't want to even deal with the slow downloads and streams and such. In the first few months, things seemed to work well, but have been slowing down ever since. Thanks for the info about the hughes site, I will definitely do their speed test for a few days and then call. I didn't realize that they guaranteed 200Kbps. Thanks again, Wes

panchovilla Posted November 28, 2006 CID Share Posted November 28, 2006 How about when your speeds are all over the map. The following is from the hughes site. You'll see that every day I've tested there are two tests back to back. These are from two different desktops using a router - each test is done with the other computer disconnected from the router.. Both machines are "tweaked" and have achieved speeds well above the 1000/200 maximum. advertised and paid for. I am not a novice at this and I have used the dial return system since 1997 until I acquired the HN7000S. Both computers are Acer Power, 3.06 Ghz Pentium 4, 1 Gig Ram. fikester Posted November 28, 2006 CID Share Posted November 28, 2006 Dont look for much from Hughes unless your scores are consistently below 200 down.....and expect them to blame the problem on the router. So try your speed test directly connected the modem.

granpa Posted November 29, 2006 CID Share Posted November 29, 2006 And that is because you are in the wrong forest grandpa. It only happens in Sherwood Forest. Just got up from my nap. There is no more Sherwood forest here. It was cut down many years ago and became Sherwood Farms until nobody in the family wanted to work anymore. So the farm was closed up and sold off. ghostmaster Posted November 29, 2006 CID Share Posted November 29, 2006 Run-around = 4 levels of support beauracracy. Level 1 and 2 will have you do the same crap over and over again, and blame it on something else. Level 3 will "look" into your modem and check stats/errors and tell you everything looks good. Level 4 will "call you back", but only when you aren't at home.
