bryanlautt Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 Why doesnt all movie theaters get rid of the old tape technology and go with DVD, I think the viewing experience would be alot better with the pic quality especially the HD DVD's I wouldnt mind going the the theater to watch movies if they had HD DVDs playing I just had to put my thoughts into this and wondering what you all thought about it
Blako Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 ...out of the nation's more than 38,000 movie screens, only around 2,200 have digital projectors I think HD DVDs are of a lower quality then what the theaters have because theaters dont care about portable DVDs. (just play off a harddrive) View the DLP demo (Digital Light Processing) at this site Other Links: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9047637 http://pic.templetons.com/brad/photo/pixels.html
dlewis23 Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 Movie theaters use cinema resolution, its 8 mega pixels. HD DVD and Bluray is only 2 Mega Pixels. Film will always be better quality, right now getting 33 mega pixels out of film is no problem, And it can go higher.
Blako Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 It has to be really high resolution if their streching the image to 20ft by 40+ ft
disturbed Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 i think it is because films are recorded on a different media to begin with - hd has its highs and its lows - its not the fact that film makers don't have money to invest into expensive cameras, but its many different things, such as lighting, size/portability of equipment and even a personal preference

peepnklown Posted April 19, 2007 CID Share Posted April 19, 2007 P.S. Instead of going to your local big corporate owned movie theaters, support your local privately own movie theaters.

There are theaters now that use digital stacks. The movie is basically kept on a hard drive so it can be moved around easily.

We have locally own theater in my town, heck we even had a drive in theater http://www.loganmovie.com/ The drive in is cool because the sound comes in on the FM instead of those old metal boxes next to a persons car. 2 movies for 5 bucks dont think thats to bad.
