Wild Blue Internet speeds

:?:  I am still confused as to why some have NO problem with Dish/WildBlue as the IPS.  I would like to as a followup to a prior question" whats wrong with the speeds"??  Daytime speeds run from 1.0meg down and 120kbps upload, after 4pm they usually tank to as little as 85kbps down .04kbps upload.  as a norm at this time 350kbps-550kbps download and .08- 80kbps upload.  There have been times that Testmy.net was not able to test, so I used another site and it never tested either.  I have the middle package from Dish,  SO WHATS UP  WILDBLUE can you help me..Please  :sad3::cry2:

Well some are installers that post their lovely speeds. On another forum the posters, posts a testmy.net speed test. Notice that the speedtest time codes shows the test was done during the morning when there is still plenty of bandwidth available. When they are confronted with that fact, they post the PrimeTime speed test which shows a slowdown in speeds. But they continue to post that fast morning test weekly. So new users checking out WildBlue on the forums see's great speeds that are near the advertised rate. And then once they get installed and experience actual 24 hour speed variations and that monthly rolling FAP, well the cursing begins.

The short of it is, bandwidth availability on some NOC's(land based uplinks/downlinks). And also some beams do not have as many subscribers, due to population and therefor can show decent PrimeTime speeds. Many people out there do not know what their speeds actually are and if the connection is slow, have the ability to walk away(or never use the system during the fast times and don't know how slow they really are). Some need the fast connection for work or school and can not walk away. And then face the daunting task of calling un-tech support. Designed to blame the user's computer for slow speeds, and wasting many hours of the users time, until they stop calling. Some users go to forums and find out the facts of why call support is not support at all.

Where an issue lies, is with the pricing tiers. You pay for the speed tier of 513Kbps to 1000Kbps. If your speeds continuously drop below 513Kbps, well thats fraud. Otherwise what use is a pricing tier system without set highs and lows. Some complain about that major speed drop and for about a month may have proper speeds before the speeds go back to like before. The user may get a one month credit as well.

The 9.8Gig of data transfer(up/down combined) on the basic(value) plan, ensures people 'upgrade' when they get FAPped at about two weeks of their new high speed broadband Internet connection. Since the plan is great for email and reading Internet text.

Next is the 'Select' plan with 15 Gigs of data transfer.

The 'Pro' plan has 22 Gigs of data transfer.

Going below 200Kbps(download) on satellite will cause page time outs. And dialup will be faster according to many.

:police: :police:I thank all that have responded to my problem.  I have a month long WB FAP.  I have never exceeded that number.  I have stopped calling WB Tech support because that always blame the computer.  I keep the computer clean.  I run maintenance programs daily as you recommended and it makes NO change.  Yes in the mornings I can run at 1.16meg down but after 4pm or so it goes to hell.  It would be nice if a Wildblue tech was online that could look into this problem for me and SO MANY others.  I AM NOT GETTNG A FAIR SHAKE FOR THE MONEY I SPEND ON DISHNETWORK/WILDBLUE.  It would seem to me that they really don't care.  I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE TO OTHERS UNLESS THEY CHANGE THEIR WAYS.  A VERY SAD CUSTOMER :tickedoff::knuppel2::cry2:

Wildblue was the worst internet service I ever ventured into . . .

On top of the fact that their "BEAMS" are so overfilled, they keep signing up people...

I am in TN, and numerous people on the WILDBLUE FORUMS comment on the same issues (yet after you complain so much, your posts(s) get deleted by the forum moderators).

Calling customer service is useless. They just state "speeds aren't guaranteed", and there is nothing that they can so about the slowness during 'PEAK" time, which is from around 4pm to 11pm.

Ranging a little more than dialup, this is certainly unacceptable for $70 a month!

Eventually, I was released from my committment after I wrote the Better Business Bureau of Denver, and finally reached their "EXECUTIVE ESCALATIONS" department.

Ken Carroll is the president of the company.

Do your self a favor and save yourself a HUGE headache.  DO NOT SIGN UP FOR WILDBLUE.

I have had HUGHES ever sense with no issues.  (See my other review)

The big word there is "IF POSSIBLE"........If DSL, CABLE, FIOS, EVDO were available, I can assure the ones who are using satellite at the moment WOULD'T BE!

Satellite internet usually is a last resort other than using dial-up for remote areas.

Or get EVDO if possible. Way better than satelite.  Sprint seems to have the happiest customers. I pay the same with way less issues.

I know, I used to be on hughes for a few years. And one day I looked (after many a long search) and behold there was EVDO. And I have not had any sad memories for it either. It was merely a suggestion to look.  And way more available than the others you mentioned. If you can get a cell phone to work ............. well thats what EVDO runs on. It cost me $69.95. No rain delays, no ice on the dish, way better U/L, and way faster surfing.  [nerdly] And I am 5 miles from civilization.

The important speed test is usually between about 7pm to 9pm.  Since thats the time most people are home and the main slow down.

And if the satellite system starts to slow down about 2pm, then it's time to avoid trying to surf the Internet that evening.

Is there anyone from today that would like to post their upload and download speeds say during the time frame of 2pm and 9:30pm...  I as a rule I get what I'm paying for prior to 2pm and sometimes not even then.  When you state your speeds and times, please state what part of the country you are in.  In middle Tn the beam is overloaded and service is normally poor most of the time after 2:30pm at least 6 days a week.. :knuppel2: :knuppel2:

Never had Hughes, but when I was looking, it was more expensive.  Also the FAP is quite different, unless it's changed.  It would not be useable to me, at least on the cheapest plan, like WB is.  I would be at less than dialup speed most of the time.  The FAP is still annoying, but at least I can download a whole iso or updates or whatever  at once without getting Fapped.  Have been hearing "horror" stories about WB, but not anyone I know that has it, also heard some about Hughes.

discussion of Hughes FAP here

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,18387358~days=9999

Hughes is terrible. Everyone I've encountered who has used them has had nothing but issues, and it is slower than molasses.

I am not familiar with the Hughes Ka band speeds, but my speeds with a Ku system has had several speed issues over the years. The time that is peak hours will vary depending on what transponder or beam your using. The WB has a terrible BBB report and many are stating speed issues download, also many are not getting the upload speeds either.....not to mention the fact WB is more expensive and does not include the FAP free time. I'm not promotting Hughes either.....just do not believe WB is any better. Seems to me the greed factor has already been applied?

And you WildBlue users will be glad that WildBlue has won a World Wide award..... That has nothing to do with customer service or the customers speeds.

http://wildblue.com/company/doPressReleaseDetailsAction.do?pressReleaseID=64

WildBlue Communications was honored as "Broadband Satellite Operator of the Year" last week at the World Satellite Business Week, an annual satellite industry event. The award is based on criteria involving subscriber growth, top line revenue growth, overall profitability and brand recognition, and is determined by a jury of industry experts from Euroconsult, Space News, and Satellite Finance. This is the second time WildBlue has won the award in the last three years.

.................... "WildBlue is extremely pleased and honored to receive this award," said David Leonard, CEO of WildBlue Communications. "Our focus has been on one thing only-providing affordable, reliable broadband service to customers in the rural U.S. It's a testament to the hard work of our entire team to be recognized for our efforts." .............

Seems the BBB has revoked WB's accreditation. I was thinking of switching to WB but have decided to go with a re-point to Spaceway3 at no cost to me instead. The more I read about WB the worse it sounds.

You'd think that a year and a half, would be plenty of time for WildBlue to fix things to comply with the BBB. But no such chance yet.

And with Hughesnet and the 'free' satellite change to the SpaceWay3 and new KA band equipment... It probably will give you a new two year contract as well. Some people upgrade for free from the DW modems to the HN modems and stay on the old satellites and don't notice that 'free' meant a new contract. And boy does the customer get pizzed about it. The KU satellites are a weekly flip of the coin for speeds.

And at least two more years till WildBlues next satellite to relieve the nightmare of congestion.

I have the same problems.  Tho the help people have been very nice considering I talk to them at least 3 times a day nearly everyday.  I have a tech guy coming out but from the sounds of it I might as well skip it and save the money.  This is all we have around here being in the middle of nowhere.  Well we do have a little wireless co here (my neighbor gets good from them unfortunely they live on the hill, big house between me and the signal point)  So I get junk signal with them.

:knuppel2: If its like when the Wildblue tech came out to check my system, wouldn't ya know it was running at or above my plan "gold".  There was not a problem with the system the entire time he was here. I gave him a complete listing of all my test scores for the past month and one half. The day after and all the way up to now it back to the same old s__t. Between 2 and 10pm its trash.  If you need to download anything do it early.  They over sold the system here in Middle Tn.  I just hope there are better days ahead :idiot2: :idiot2: :knuppel2:
