Claernce Posted February 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 Welcome Clarence...(You sure came in with a BANG!!) You guys are making me sick... I can only dream of speeds like that...especially with a price of $49.95... Is there a website that shows upcoming places that Fiber is coming to?? thx Mark Hello Bamafamily. Here's the only thing I could find that mentions where FIOS is heading. Hope this helps. I assume you hail from Alabama. If so, do you live anywhere near Peterman? I used to work in a Plywood Mill there. http://newscenter.verizon.com/kit/fiber/?PROACTIVE_ID=cecdc9ccc7cbcbc8cdc5cecfcfcfc5cecec8cecec8caccc9cbc5cf

bamafamily Posted February 11, 2005 CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 Clarence... Never heard of Peterman...Although I googled it and your 281 miles South of where I live http://tinyurl.com/4adg2 Mark
Hctim Posted February 11, 2005 CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 i wish qwest in denver had more cs serverson there backbone i would be pinging 5 to 3 ms just to let people know cheyenne in 100 miles from denver ,co. I ping www.qwest.com at 4 to 5ms . Fios is fast but you cant tell only if your downloading. Like for Comcast it was 50ms to the domain server to therers 50ms slower then higher pings. To ping to my domain server is 1ms unlike comcast is 50ms but thats still way way fast but cable just sucks i think but anything better then 56k
Claernce Posted February 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 Clarence... Never heard of Peterman...Although I googled it and your 281 miles South of where I live http://tinyurl.com/4adg2 Mark Well, that brought back a few memories. I actually lived in Monroeville and drove to the mill in Peterman. That area of Alabama is about as country as country can get. I used to drive to Excel and Frisco city to hang out with the people I met on the job. I remember a town, or what used to be a town, between Monroeville and Excel. It looked like a ghost town. Most all of the buildings were still standing, including the Bank, which still had the name of that Bank painted on the side of the wall. I think it was gutted from a fire. I always wondered what made the people up and leave. I remember a town, if you can call it that, named Burnt Corn. It sits at the intersection of where 5 roads meet. I always thought that was a good name for a town. It was more like a small community.

bamafamily Posted February 11, 2005 CID Share Posted February 11, 2005 Yes..Redstone Arsenal (RSA) is right in the middle of town...About 12,000 people work on RSA for different entities of the government I was in the military (Army) here from '84-'88 (Hawk and Patriot Missle Electronics) I was a subcontractor with Northrop Grumman on RSA from '89-'96 ( a job where I would have to kill you if I told you..LOL) I am now a subcontractor with Teledyne Brown ('03-?) working remotely with Scientific Payloads currently on the International Space Station.. As for Talladega...that was my first NASCAR race....A real experience...100,000 drunk rednecks cheering at cars running 200mph around an oval track. Since then I have seen 2 - Daytona 500's.(in-laws live in Daytona Beach) I am not a big fan of watching cars run around in circles though.. cya Bama

sportsfandallas Posted March 4, 2005 CID Share Posted March 4, 2005 hey i suffered for 1 year on DIAL UP becuase i simply hate Comcast, but I jumped all over it when i heard about this speed for 34.95 with a qualifiying Verizon phone service, but I am pleased to tell ya if you live in SBC territory they are soon going to be doing the same thing, I work for SBC and they are starting to do the same thing Verizon did, however be it that they are behind, they were waiting for regulations and stuff to be clear before doing something like this, I would definately NEVER go back to anything OTHER than FIOS this is the best connection i have ever had, now if i can just go buy the things needed to go wireless i can get the wires off the floor and no one will trip anymore Phil

sportsfandallas Posted March 5, 2005 CID Share Posted March 5, 2005 well, ok i got a D-Link Wireless Router and had it finally working after about 1 hr with Verizon Technical support, they are great, but come to find out when i hooked my son's computer up the D-Link adapter I Bought was NOT compatible with Windows ME so i guess I have to go back to Best Buy tomorrow. it is only compatible with Windows 2000 or XP go figure Phil Out! sportsfandallas Posted March 5, 2005 CID Share Posted March 5, 2005 .S1, thanks for the update! well here is what i have DLink Wireless router, and a Netgear adapter on my son's computer and after some trouble shooting with Verizon for the router, and Net Gear for the adapter, we are CORD free in the house my son can be on the highspeed network, he might lose some speed but he would never notice, it is definately worth the 140 i spent, plus getting back 40 dollars in rebates from best buy so total expense to cut the cord? 100$ not too bad
