dlewis23 Posted September 11, 2008 CID Share Posted September 11, 2008 hi everyone just want to know what is the best IDE cable? One that works... There really is only one kind now anyway. There is a 40 wire IDE cable and a 80 Wire IDE cable. 80 is used for the most part, but it doesn't really make anything faster.

dlewis23 Posted September 11, 2008 CID Share Posted September 11, 2008 the 80 wires that your saying is the thin wires right? unlike 40 the wires are much thicker so what was the best i used 80 thin wires of IDE but its already broken and i have a replacement of 40 wires of IDE im worrying for my PC to run SLOW It will not run any slower, you won't even notice the difference. Don't worry about it. if you're asking for the brand, Asus. Really? can you please tell me the difference between Asus copper, and Foxconn copper? Brands don't really matter when it comes to cables as long as its a solid feeling cable it doesn't matter who's name is on it. Thats like saying monster cables are actually worth the money. tommie gorman Posted September 11, 2008 CID Share Posted September 11, 2008 Just like USB cales. I use generic for $3 and no slow downs to be noticed, except my spending.
vern Posted September 11, 2008 CID Share Posted September 11, 2008 Actually there is a big difference between the 40 wire and 80 wire IDE cables. While using a 40 wire one will work and you may not notice a difference if it is connected to a hard drive; if it is connected to a cd or dvd burner, you will notice a difference in the time it takes to do a burn. Using a 40 wire cable will force it to use ata 66.
morlock Posted September 11, 2008 CID Share Posted September 11, 2008 your 40-pin 40-conductor IDE cable can be used but it will limit your device to a maximum transfer rate of Ultra ATA/33.So better use same cable provided by your motherboard or alike.
