krankbt Posted March 24, 2004 Author CID Share Posted March 24, 2004 But I have seen people on here with much faster connection for the same cost that I pay which is around $55. When I get back to Houston I'll have to test the speed of mycable modem there. We have AOL at home and I'm in Pine Bluff, Arkansas so I can somwhat see why. krankbt Posted March 24, 2004 Author CID Share Posted March 24, 2004 unfortunately yeah. anyone know how fast AOL is advertised for, because I'm not sure?
evildevil Posted March 24, 2004 CID Share Posted March 24, 2004 AOL usually piggybacks on to High Speed Internet. Its not its own isp with the connection, unless you're talking about Dialup.

MICROWAVE Posted March 24, 2004 CID Share Posted March 24, 2004 So does anyone know bout how fast AOL goes? I think what we are all saying is if you can do it the only way to surf is broadband and alot of us use our cable TV company's,mine is cox~hsi which happens to be the co. that ca3le guy works fo....So he is the guy with the real scoop on broadband. I pay $39.95per month which is about twice the amount as most dial up....but there is no comparison to the speeds 56K v 488K which is faster than I pay for.....I pay for 3000/256....wow more than 71 times faster than the BEST dial up....pretty cool huh!! krankbt Posted March 25, 2004 Author CID Share Posted March 25, 2004 I tried to you that thing that The Cable Guy was talking about, but i think it used my current ISP which is in a whole different state. I don't know but that seemed slow too. Maybe I am just with the wrong ISP.

Frugle Posted April 1, 2004 CID Share Posted April 1, 2004 man, all of you are getting ripped I pay $38 dollars a month for Adelphia Powerlink Cable internet. (I already am paying for cable TV, so since I am buying both, I get a good deal) these speeds are faster than anything I have ever seen on anything, (that isn't T1 or above) I have full bragging rights sorry, I'm behind a constant firewall, ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 5969 Kbps about 6 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 729 KB/sec Auth Code: 262626 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 107 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 1.4 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_chec...145.14285714286
lorne Posted April 1, 2004 CID Share Posted April 1, 2004 Hey Frugle, hows it going. I pay $40 cdn and have posted speeds that are not to far behind yours, so iam getting a pretty good deal. Your speeds are really fast, but there have been faster posted here. So you don't have exclusive bragging rites What firewall are you behind, let us know, CA3LE might no a way to test with it so we can confirm it is a real test. Hippie Posted August 14, 2004 CID Share Posted August 14, 2004 Original Question: "Does my ISP suck or is it just me?" Krankbt, I think you may be confused about the link speed. Your advertised speed is NOT the download speed as one might think. We (you & I) measure download speed in KiloBYTES (KB). The advertised speed is in KiloBITS (Kb). Your ISP said 512 max download and your test showed 534 (faster than advertised!) Translation: 534Kbps download would actually be 65KB
Swimmer Posted August 14, 2004 CID Share Posted August 14, 2004 these speeds are faster than anything I have ever seen on anything, (that isn't T1 or above) I have full bragging rights Laughing T1 is 1.5mbs (1500kbs) up and down... at the same time... you are faster in the download catigory but can you upload at 1500kbs?? didnt think so.. lol nice speed!
