just- Posted February 19, 2005 CID Share Posted February 19, 2005 100Mbps Symmetrical Fiber for $100? The reason munis scare the incumbents Telephony Online checks in on the status of Utah's UTOPIA, which will evenutually be the largest municipally run fiber network in the country. They expect to pass 50,000 homes by year's end, and the first ISP is live and offering service: 10Mbps for $40, with symmetrical 50 and 100Mbps (planners claim for less than $100) tiers planned. Converge Network Digest offers a good (though dated) technical exploration of the UTOPIA network. Anyone in the USA that can use this - ENJOY !!!! for more information please go to http://telephonyonline.com/fttp/marketing/dynamiccity_gould_utopia_021605/

Just_rob Posted February 19, 2005 CID Share Posted February 19, 2005 I live in the service area, just no active ISP yet that I can get on with... Guaranteed when it's available, I'll have the 100Mb package.. You all think it's great, but you dont have to pay the property taxes that funded the project!! Nothing in life's a free ride, everything has a cost one way or another.....
mbrainerd Posted February 19, 2005 CID Share Posted February 19, 2005 good price, but i will never see it here where i am at.. i pay $136 per month for 2568/898 service ithrough my local phone company..and they will never sell out to the big boys or run fiber where I am at..even though they have it 10 miles north from my home...
