jacksain Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 I have noticed that Testmy.net invariably reports faster download speeds when re-testing. I have Comcast enhanced service and I typically test at 5Mbps; however, an immediate re-test yields 6Mbps. Which is the more reliable result and why the significant difference? Odysseus_____ Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 Hmm.. well the obvious is that somehow the test is cached on the second... but usually in that event, the test score is something unbelievable (i.e. - a 25 Mbit score on what is known to be a 5 Mbit connection)..... in your case, I think it's more a matter of coincidence... I've had the opposite happen... where my 1st score kicks arse, but each one after is just a little slower.... But again I attribute that to "margin of error" if you will...it's not consistantly like that.
CA3LE Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 See... I don't have that problem. And it would be very hard for your browser to cahce any of my tests. Change your browsers max cache size to 5000 (or about 5MB) this may fix the problem. With highspeed it really doesn't need to be bigger than that Here are my scores, I scored lower on the retest... upload was the same either way. And by the way, my connection if running like shit the past week or so. :::.. REV0LUTI0NIZED Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 Yup, that sucks CA3L3. I see that your upload is extremely horrible. Good Luck Trying To Fix It.
jacksain Posted February 22, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 Thanks for the postings. I have been using Firefox; but I just verified that the speed bump on re-test occurrs with IE6 as well. My cache has been set to 1meg all along. CA3LE Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 Do you have any firewalls running?
BAF Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 happens to me sometimes. It is probably just because your connection "warms up" so it lets you get higher through put.
jacksain Posted February 23, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 23, 2005 reply to CA3LE- I do use Zone Alarm Pro v5.5. After shutting down the firewall and disabling Norton Anti-virus, results are: Initial test: 4499bps re-test: 5612bps.
