compuworm Posted March 2, 2005 CID Share Posted March 2, 2005 I could not help but wonder whether my antivirus program should be on when I am using your download and upload speed test. I definitely see a difference when the antivirus program is on (much slower) Vs. off (much faster). Also, when using the Cablenut program should I have the antivirus on or off when trying to determine my latency value to manually put into the cablenut (v5) page? Please help a noob. Thanks. Onibus Posted March 3, 2005 CID Share Posted March 3, 2005 It's best to have it off because the anti-virus is a on-demand scan, meaning that whatever you open, download, read, write will be scanned for viruses. Granted, this takes some time to process. I always turn my anti virus off, especially during games because I have yet to download a virus because of a map download . Same thing for this website. I want my readings to be accurate when downloading the 3mb test and not have the anti-virus slow the process because it wants to "protect" you
php Posted March 4, 2005 CID Share Posted March 4, 2005 I turned off my anti-virus program and saw a significant difference in speed. I wouldn't recommend keeping it off while actively browsing the internet, though.
MICROWAVE Posted March 7, 2005 CID Share Posted March 7, 2005 An A.V. or a firewall both can slow down a connection..... as has been said don't browse with these off.... Microwave
