ninjageek Posted December 1, 2011 CID Share Posted December 1, 2011 Hey guys, need some advice. I am looking for a wi fi booster for my laptop.Something that I can connect by usb, Not sure how well they work? We have some free wireless access points in town, If I move the laptop to another room I can connect better. If you could give me a link to a place to buy it I would appreciate it. Amazon is preferred,
tommie gorman Posted December 1, 2011 CID Share Posted December 1, 2011 Does it have to include amazon? http://3gstore.com/
dn0 Posted December 1, 2011 CID Share Posted December 1, 2011 Sounds like a repeater may be a good option, but they aren't cheap generally. They will pick up a WI-FI signal and then rebroadcast it locally. http://hawkingtech.com/index.php/products/wireless/repeaters_&_extenders/haw2r1.html
mjburns Posted December 7, 2011 CID Share Posted December 7, 2011 A less pricey solution is Ubiquite - WIFISTATION-EXT WLAN USB 802.11g/n 1000mW EXT http://www.ispsupplies.com/categories/2GHz-CPE-AP-Bridge/WIFISTATION-EXT.html I got one to extend the range to a remote building on our property. The signal went from 3-6 MB/Sec to 54 MB/sec. I also got a 18dBi antenna to replace the stock 6dBi omni (included). It has a 4m USB connection. I mounted it on the wall and it just works.
