hbottjer Posted February 11, 2012 CID Share Posted February 11, 2012 New member making a post, as requested, to introduced myself. Live in NYC, referred to this site from another. Just upgraded my dsl service after realizing I was paying separately for phone & internet. Bundled the two together and became more aware of speed. I've been manually monitoring line speed using the ISP test and have notice constant speed degradation, requiring me to reboot the modem. Once I reboot, speed goes back up. I will start a continuous monitor (so I don't have to do it manually) and present to the ISP. mudmanc4

Mc3research Posted February 26, 2012 CID Share Posted February 26, 2012 Who is the ISP? If I recall correctly, broadbandreports.com has some speed monitoring tools that might help you document and trend line the slowdown. I don't have as much experience with DSL modems as cable modems, but most likely the modem has an error log that would be interesting to look through. bigw Posted February 26, 2012 CID Share Posted February 26, 2012 I have found that through out the day my speed goes up and down and then when it is VERY slow that the router needs a quick reboot. Just for out of my own curiosity are you using wi-fi or wired? Welcom to one of the two places that make me feel at home!!
