xs1 Posted March 9, 2005 CID Share Posted March 9, 2005 For one, your not on dialup, or at least not directly. Your using proxy servers. First proxy server traces to North Carolina Roaddunner . The second one you have used traces to "proxyconn" which is an internet accelerator website, which would explain the insane scores on "dialup" but not the roadrunner address. Neither being a dialup dns tho. But i digress. Back to "proxyconn" ...the amazing accelerator!!11....but thats not what your using ...is it? No of course not. But using the network query tool oddly enough, i found that that server is accepting connections via port 8080. ! Which means, yea. Another proxy. But not public, no. Then itd come up as proxyconn's ip address, which it doesnt. It comes up as "localhost" which is root access to a webserver. This can only mean one of 3 things. 1) Your somehow not aware that you keep switching proxy's. 2) Your really computer illiterate. 3) Your a troll, and we do not feed trolls. so BEGONE! [edit] But i do thank you for making it interesting [edit2] You have realy nice ping for "dialup" as well Tracing route to 64.94.14.68 over a maximum of 30 hops 1 5 ms 5 ms 8 ms 10.102.192.1 2 7 ms 8 ms 7 ms atm5-0-644.tampflerl-rtr1.tampabay.rr.com [24.92.7.42] 3 7 ms 7 ms 7 ms 65.32.8.133 4 8 ms 7 ms 7 ms pop1-tby-P0-1.atdn.net [66.185.136.169] 5 8 ms 7 ms 7 ms bb1-tby-P0-0.atdn.net [66.185.136.160] 6 25 ms 25 ms 25 ms bb2-atm-P7-0.atdn.net [66.185.152.245] 7 25 ms 25 ms 25 ms pop1-atm-P1-0.atdn.net [66.185.147.195] 8 24 ms 25 ms 26 ms sl-bb23-atl-10-2.sprintlink.net [144.232.8.209] 9 26 ms 25 ms 25 ms sl-bb20-atl-9-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.12.13] 10 26 ms 25 ms 25 ms 144.232.29.66 11 41 ms 42 ms 41 ms leg-208-30-205-130-RIA.sprinthome.com [208.30.205.130] 12 41 ms 41 ms 41 ms border5.pc1-bbnet1.acs.pnap.net [64.94.0.10] 13 42 ms 41 ms 42 ms [ip address here ] Trace complete. pitbull481 Posted March 9, 2005 CID Share Posted March 9, 2005 you get ACCELERATOR if you have broadband connection, same thing with AOL Broadband here is what I read: With TurboSpeed you get great new features... Accelerator. You get near broadband speed when browsing or downloading your emails using Dial-up. For Screaming Internet speed, use Accelerator with your existing Broadband connection. Anti Spyware. It will block those annoying pop-ups and pop-unders. Ads and pop-ups are blocked in your browser and in many popular applications, such as Kazaa, Morpheus, iMesh, Gator and others. Email Accelerator. Access to your email has never been faster! Ad Blocker. It blocks most banner ads. You may select to block any unwanted animations, too. No more flashing. Parental Control. Odysseus_____ Posted March 9, 2005 CID Share Posted March 9, 2005 http://www.proxyconn.com/partner_tech.asp What makes Proxyconn's technology unique? The Proxyconn Internet Accelerator utilizes the client-server approach to achieve up to 6x acceleration ratios for web content and email. Proxyconn Acceleration Server compresses web pages, images, animations, documents and HTTP headers, applying a vast array of mostly proprietary compression algorithms. Each data type is compressed using the compression scheme, optimal for this data type. For example, HTML pages can be compressed to less than 2% of the original size. This is 50:1 compression ratio. Already compressed JPEG and GIF images can be further compressed by up to 12x ! Caching on both the client and the server prevents unnecessary re-transmissions, while ensuring that only fresh and correct data is delivered to the end user. That sorta explains it.... Odysseus_____ Posted March 10, 2005 CID Share Posted March 10, 2005 Na, I don't think it's cached... try this Wendy.... do the test again.. except time it with the second hand of a watch while it's doing it.... see if it really is taking the same amount of time where it says "Bottom Line:: 70X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.13 sec"..... If the actual time you measure is longer than what's stated, my suspicion is that the proxy is getting benchmarked rather than you and the results are coming back to you.... If it is accurate then the proxy is d/loading the pages and compressing them... then the time it takes for you to d/load the extremely compressed file is what your speed is being calculated from... (i.e. - what it thinks your time is for a 1 meg file is actually the time for like a 100k compressed file, or what have you...) Needless to say now, if a someone is using a service like that then all bets are off with the speed tests.... Most important thing is that the connection is adequate for your style of use.
