VanBuren Posted March 14, 2005 CID Share Posted March 14, 2005 try this when you connect your pc to router set your NIC to 100 Mbps full duplex and when connecting direct to modem, use 10 mbps half duplex here is a guide how to change the duplex settings quote from http://dslnuts.com/tips_tricks.shtml "Windows 2000 or XP: to change to half-duplex: * Open Control Panel. * Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections. * Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection. * Right-click that icon and select Properties. * Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure. * Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front: * In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT. * In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or ( at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI. * Click OK to exit the Adapter settings. * Click OK to exit the Connection properties. php Posted March 15, 2005 CID Share Posted March 15, 2005 Before: Alarm: Duplex mismatch condition found: Host set to HD and Switch set to FD After: Normal duplex operation found It looks pretty good
VanBuren Posted March 15, 2005 CID Share Posted March 15, 2005 that test is not accurate when it comes to duplex mode, use the settings that works best for you, 100 Mbps full duplex if you have a router and 10 Mbps half duplex without router works best for most cable connections. lazy8 Posted March 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 15, 2005 cool you are the shiz ty I was able to get one of my friends to over 5.2Mbps but it seems like I'm stuck with 4.6 or so. I guess it has to do with the location? maybe?

lazy8 Posted March 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted March 15, 2005 no I think my friend has a motorola surfboard an I'm not even sure what modem I have it whatever TWC supplies
VanBuren Posted March 16, 2005 CID Share Posted March 16, 2005 some modems tend to give abit better speed then others anyways, your speed is fine, have fun VanBuren
