2011 Mac second hand needing log in

iMac 2011 second hand

So I found an iMac on hard rubbish. Box and monitor only. I’ve found a power cord and got some life to it but it needed RAM ( they removed it). Bought that and now it’s asking for the previous owners password. I obviously don’t have that. My guess is something must have been wrong with it for them to just chuck it on hard rubbish but I’m willing to give it a go to get it working. There were heaps of other electrical stuff including other computers on the pile, it kind of looked like either they went to jail and everything they ever owned was thrown on the side walk, or they were evicted involuntarily. My question is, it looks like I now need an Apple keyboard to try and factory restart it. Will this clear everything enough to not require the previous owners details and I can just log in on my own Apple account? Or am I just going to waste more money?

Sweet find! :headbang:

I'd definitely try to revive it.

Here's instructions on how to create a bootable OSX install USB. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

If you have a USB windows keyboard you can use it.  When you boot up hold the option key [alt on a windows keyboard] to get the boot menu and then select the OSX install USB. From there it's a standard OSX install.
