Swimmer Posted April 27, 2005 CID Share Posted April 27, 2005 I would power cycle the modem.. That would be unplug it for 10 min and then plug it back in.. I am almost positive that you should be getting the 4mbps upgrade no questions asked... You might have not got the new update for the modem.. php Posted April 27, 2005 CID Share Posted April 27, 2005 welcome to the forum DVDIT its also possible your old modem is the cause of the low speed

DVDIT Posted April 28, 2005 Author CID Share Posted April 28, 2005 I did RWIN tweak , run ccleaner and uninstalled Zone Alarm and voila! speed was back to 3.6mbps. I installed Zone Alarm back and speed went down to 1.8mbps. Now I know who the culprit is. My question is do I have to live with this compromise or are they any other FREE firewall that I can use that won't have the same effect on speed?? If there are no free firewall then which one should I buy? I am connected thorough Linksys router (BTW,doesn't linksys routers have built-in firewall?). Swimmer Posted April 28, 2005 CID Share Posted April 28, 2005 NAT is not a true firewall... all that it does is block incomming requests that the router doesnt know where to route.. so it will block some popups.. Hackers can still get though it.. as soon as you forward a port.. NAT is no longer a "firewall"

netmasta Posted April 28, 2005 CID Share Posted April 28, 2005 I use Zone Alarm (free edition) and have no speed problems. Do you have the latest version? I've heard some people have been having speed problems with certian versions.

poppers601 Posted April 1, 2007 CID Share Posted April 1, 2007 I recently upgraded Comcast to 16Mbps. My Linksys router BSFR41 ver. 2 won't go past 6Mbps. Without, I get 15.X Mbps from modem. What newer router will handle my faster service?
