netmasta Posted May 16, 2005 CID Share Posted May 16, 2005 I'm trying to download Knoppix ~700Mb and I am having a little trouble with it. I'm using Bittorrent to download the files. The download goes fine for about 5 minutes, then I get an BSOD with an NDIS.sys error. I have a feeling it has something to do with my nic, possibly. Thanks in advance. cak46 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Haven't used BitTorrent Before. Have you tried the same download without it and/or have you had any troubles besides the BitTorrent download?
netmasta Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 I tried to download it directly too. Same problem.
cak46 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 What is the error (of course, besides bsod) information modules involved, fatal exception, general protection, etc ?
netmasta Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 I think it was something like "IRQL_LESS_OR NOT EQUAL" or something close to that.
xs1 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Youll have to post the exact error, because theirs a long extention that goes with the IRQL-L-E error
netmasta Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Give me a few minutes. It will happen again soon.
netmasta Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Well, I got it again DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x000000D1 ( [a few more 0x0 codes] ) NDIS.SYS ADDRESS F9131A96 BASE AT F911500
xs1 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 According to every site iv read on now, its either 1) NIC card 2) NIC card drivers 3) Ram stick error. All 3 of these will send out that, and similar errors. Try downloading the latest card drivers, or if yu have the newest, try the version right before the newest. Also was mentioned to try and update your bios, but not as much as the other 3. This is also pretty similar from M$ http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817864 http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_ottj.asp

xs1 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 here Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used improper addresses typically cause this error. Interpreting the Message This Stop message has four parameters: 1. Memory referenced. 2. IRQL at time of reference. 3. Type of access (0x00000000 = read operation, 0x00000001 = write operation). 4. Address that referenced memory. Resolving the Problem For additional troubleshooting suggestions that apply to all Stop errors, see "Stop Message Checklist" later in this appendix. * Stop 0xD1 messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools. For more information about Stop 0xD1 messages, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base link on the Web Resources page at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/reskits/webresources. Search using keywords winnt, 0x000000D1, and 0xD1. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_ottj.asp
netmasta Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 My NIC (Netgear FA311) has the defaut drivers that came with Windows installed. Those are the newest available. I doubt it's a ram stick error.
