cak46 Posted June 2, 2005 CID Share Posted June 2, 2005 This might be a dumb question, but would it be an opportunity for Testmy to host a few programs directly, like Ad-Aware, Spybot, Avast..... Direct links from the original sites? Might have an opportunity to increase membership that much more, having more people coming to get programs such as those. Just a thought. php Posted June 2, 2005 CID Share Posted June 2, 2005 and bandwidth would probably shoot though the roof... and the companies might not like us taking their visitors...
just- Posted June 7, 2005 CID Share Posted June 7, 2005 yeah badnwidth is already an issue please im not sure its that easy just to host program from other companies
cak46 Posted June 7, 2005 Author CID Share Posted June 7, 2005 Yeah, didn't even consider the bandwidth issue as a problem but can see how it could become an issue awfully quick. PHP with Spybot, it is hosted by many different companies. It looks like the selection that you can download from is randomized somehow because the list changes sometimes each time I go to download it. php Posted June 8, 2005 CID Share Posted June 8, 2005 the companies do that so you can't link directly to the file, you have to go through their download page (and most likely see their ads)
dlewis23 Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 this could be a good idea, to offer programs that help people out, if ca3le wants to do it, I will host the files, and take care of the bandwidth.
amc11890 Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 sounds like a good idea, some ppl that visit this site may not no about these programs and it will be good to promte the software

php Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 Multiple mirrios aren't bad... maybe I can set up a download script that randomly picks a mirror...
richcornucopia Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 Possibly based on congestion, or the number of users that each mirror is currently serving...?
php Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 Possibly based on congestion, or the number of users that each mirror is currently serving...? nah... probably too complicated, and there won't be that many users on a mirror at once... dlewis23 Posted January 25, 2006 CID Share Posted January 25, 2006 mine is kinda setup that way thought with bandwidth , if there is 50 or less users downloading files it will go at 400-500kB/s if there is more then 50 at one time it will go at 200-300kB/s download
