gr8dane Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 Why does Tracert time out on my system? Is there a specific port that I need to "open" on my firewall? Here is the log file: Log created by AutoCheck.bat on Thu 06/30/2005 Pinging testmy.net [67.18.179.85] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=46ms TTL=52 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=52 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=52 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=52 Ping statistics for 67.18.179.85: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 44ms, Maximum = 46ms, Average = 44ms Ping Complete. xs1 Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 Well , you'll need to give some kind of info on your system.. Whos your ISP? What firewall / antivirus w/ firewall you running? Router? Routerless? etc.
FallowEarth Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 Your router has likely blocked the TCP/IP traceroute command (funny it allows pings though). I think it is more in the program control than port blocking.
gr8dane Posted July 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 2, 2005 Well , you'll need to give some kind of info on your system.. Whos your ISP? What firewall / antivirus w/ firewall you running? Router? Routerless? etc. ISP is Adelphia (cable) I do have a router (ASANTE FR3004 LC) but I get the same behavior when I bypass the router. However, when I took down the Freedom Firewall the tracert no longer timed out. Next Question: How much would one expect the router to slow down the download? My downloads went up almost 1000 Kbps when the router was bypassed. Normal? Anything I can do about this (besides keeping the router and the wife's laptop and a printer out of the loop)? If she was online when you tested through the router and then you tested directly thru the modem..... Nope, 'cept keep 'em all off-line. Router might take a bit off your bandwidth, due to store and forward, but not that much...
