milankalus Posted July 4, 2005 CID Share Posted July 4, 2005 There must be something going on at Comcast cable. My Gold High Speed connection increased over the weekend from 5000Kbps to 5200-5500Kbps download. I observed similar speed increase just before the last speed increase in April. Interestingly, the Testmy.net speed remains the same. Milan
ixnayspyder Posted July 4, 2005 CID Share Posted July 4, 2005 Well lately, past 3 weeks or more, I have had a serious decrease in download speed. I have the upgraded package 6Mbps up 768Kb up. My upload has gotten a lot better, around 86 KB/s...but download is horrible at about 116 KB/s when around 3 to 4 weeks ago was at least 550 to 700 KB/s. I read a post on another forum earlier today http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13580077 talking about how comcast made a CRAN upgrade last month and a guy from that post had to get another modem from comcast that helped boost it back up some. Maybe you got a better end of the stick haha
tbaker397 Posted July 4, 2005 CID Share Posted July 4, 2005 Your internet should be running around 6 megs throughput... so maybe a few tweaks are needed
ixnayspyder Posted July 4, 2005 CID Share Posted July 4, 2005 True, but the thing is, I have done tweaks with cablenut and a couple other programs as well and the only thing that seems to have gotten better recently is my upload. Like i said, its been going on for 3 weeks or more. Same thing happend to a friend of mine on the other side of town too as well as other people in my area from what I have seen on a few different forums. I think tomorrow or the next day I am going to call comcast and see what they say about it

buddy222 Posted August 6, 2005 CID Share Posted August 6, 2005 Comcast told me i'am now at the 6mbs level in the Philadelphia suburbs. So far I haven't got beyond 4.9mbs down. The comcast tech came out switched the SB4100 with a SB4101. I had ask him to give me a SB5100 but he said they were out of those. I still haven't pasted the 4.9mbs level but the upload improved from 374 to 703. The tech said it could be a weak signal problem. My modem downstream SNR is 37dB...PL -1dBmv. The upstream PL is 50dBmv. Comcast is sending out another tech to verify the signal strength in a few days. Comcast has already dropped a new cable & installed a new amp in the pedestal then switched to a new splitter. I think I'll buy a SB5100 from BestBuy...when the tech comes i'll let him try that modem to see if this is really a modem issue. I've tweaked RWIN ..MTU with different variations but nothing gets me into the middle 5 to 6mbs range. They said the cap is at 6.6mbs. Any input would be welcomed
