junkieXL Posted August 12, 2005 CID Share Posted August 12, 2005 Interesting article today from 'The Insider' ... "Siberia feels the heat-- It's a frozen peat bog the size of France and Germany combined, contains billions of tonnes of greenhouse gas and, for the first time since the ice age, it is melting A vast expanse of western Sibera is undergoing an unprecedented thaw that could dramatically increase the rate of global warming, climate scientists warn today. Researchers who have recently returned from the region found that an area of permafrost spanning a million square kilometres - the size of France and Germany combined - has started to melt for the first time since it formed 11,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age." full article--> http://www.theinsider.org/news/article.asp?id=1446 almost sounds like "Judgement Day" is upon us :( -JxL

milchama Posted August 12, 2005 CID Share Posted August 12, 2005 A vast expanse of western Sibera is undergoing an unprecedented thaw that could dramatically increase the rate of global warming, climate scientists warn today. This is same propaganda that is plugged into rediculous hollywood movies like "The Day After Tomarrow" nice fx but incredibly rediculous. We live in post-modern day and we have only been recording the climate for the last 100- 150 years which is hardly a spit in the bucket compared to age of Humanity on Earth. If you believe in evolution than the sample of data is even smaller compared to the age of life on Earth. I think all this global warming is bull. I mean does what a butterfly in china do by flapping its wings effect the weather in the Americas? I unederstand what El Nino is and how it litterly changes things on a large scale. But to say that all factories are responsible for global warming and it is changing the world as we know it. Is like blaming volcanoe's erupting on the abandonment of worshiping the god vulcan. We live on a large and great planet just because of technology we can generate data from all regions of the planet thus making it seem smaller and more fragile than it is. We are simply witnessing changes that are naturally occuring. whos to say that the global climate has'nt been on the incline since the decline of the Ice Age. Which would make "global warming" just a natural cycle of our ancient planet. Global Warming is based on mere correlations and assumptions. Shug7272 Posted August 12, 2005 CID Share Posted August 12, 2005 I dont think we will solve the debate over global warming here. But hey if God decides he wants it to melt so be it. Im not worried about it as long as my fridge stays cold.
