resopalrabotnick Posted September 8, 2005 CID Share Posted September 8, 2005 why not use cable at school? or dsl for that matter. the kids are supposed to be looking up stuff online and not leaching pr0n, so the bandwidth is generally sufficient to be split. tbaker397 Posted September 8, 2005 CID Share Posted September 8, 2005 could you imagine a 7/896(highest dsl package available in U.S. as far as I know) connected to a school to say with 2000 kids? Given maybe only 200-400 maybe on at any given time, but you should get the idea. And I am guessing your school has multiple lines because even 1 business class cable line cant support that much. Elite.Pete Posted September 9, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 9, 2005 comcast buisness isn't cable though.. if im not mistaken i believe it's thier version of FIOS and we have business routers/hubs and stuff and it's always pretty fast
dlewis23 Posted September 9, 2005 CID Share Posted September 9, 2005 all the schools that ive gone to have had a bellsouth SDSL. in my High School, i was the network admin for all 3500 computers, we had a 768kB/s sdsl line and each computer got about 20-30kB/s on download so it wasn't that bad for just looking up sh*t. But hay i was also running a server off that connection at the same time.

tbaker397 Posted September 9, 2005 CID Share Posted September 9, 2005 we have a small school, no more than 1000 kids and I found out this year we have upgraded.... from 2 T3 lines to 3 T3 lines, one for each school(elementary, middle & high). But the elementary T3 also hosts the schools website with some of the load routed to the middle school when the load is high
