K33viper Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Where you located? I have been having problems with my comcast lately. Very irratic speeds. When it used to be completely stable at 800kb/s...

netmasta Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 It's on the list of approved modems, so I doubt the modem is the problem. Have you checked your signal levels?
K33viper Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Yep, signal levels and everything are GREAT. I have had a few tech's come out and after looking through it all tell me everything on my end is perfect. So yeah, I am pissed, its been nasty for about a month
netmasta Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 I kind of odd, since your uploads are good. Did you change any hardware or software right before the speed problems happened?
K33viper Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Nope, just one friday night. I was getting 800kb/s consistantly for like 2-3 months after speed upgrade. It was like 500kb/s consistantly before the upgrade. Then one friday night it just pooped out, been the same ever since...
netmasta Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 It could also be your route to Testmy.net. The are some issues with "teir 1" providers. Try a ping and tracert to Testmy.net

netmasta Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Your first hop should not time out. Are you using a router?
K33viper Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Yeah the WCG 200...its a router/modem combo I have used the same model for about 2 years now. I did a RMA return awhile back b/c it was rebooting randomly on me
netmasta Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 Ah, ok. I'm guessing the router has a built in firewall. You could try DMZ'ing your computer. Firewalls, software and hardware can affect your speeds.

cykage Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 I live in Mishawaka, Indiana, and I only get a constant 3Mbps instead of 6Mbps that I should be getting. I talked to Comcast and they don't think there's a problem, which there obviously is.
K33viper Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 Mishawaka is very close to me. I used to get my constant 6meg, only in the past month or so has it been really messing up though...

Maybe its something with the hardware (cables, modem, router if u have one...), or maybe the company just does repairs or upgrades in your service area, which would seem unlikely from the lack of information that the company representative had as u said.. cykage Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 They told me there found no issues with my modem, and there was no maintenence being done in my area.
raptors892004 Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 they it could simply be a line quality problem, which i would not think they can detect from their office or something with the wiring at your home (e.g: ethernet cables)
cykage Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 But I used to get 4Mbps back when they first implemented it, and nothing has changed since then. So I really doubt it's my setup
raptors892004 Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 cables change.. its not the way you set it up probably as you say u did not change anything.. i had to change the ethernet cable from my modem to router so that my internet does not disconnect randomly (tried this method today.. hope it works in the future )
cykage Posted November 1, 2005 CID Share Posted November 1, 2005 I guess the cables could be a possibility, but I seriously doubt it. Oh well.. I can deal with it as long as it doesn't drop any further (the speed).
