And for the spitter, is more Mhz better?? Whats the best brand? I currently have a 3 way splitter and is says 900Mhz. Don't bust on my MS Paint skills, I know.... This is the best case scenario, it is not set in stone, though. CableTech01 Posted November 14, 2005 CID Share Posted November 14, 2005 Well if you really want to be technical you should test the signal strength of your main feeder line before going in to any splitters and then instead of using that 2-way splitter use a directional coupler with a value that will give you the desired signal strength at your modem (desired signal strength at the modem being as close to 0 dBmV as possible). And I would personally never use a 900 Mhz splitter in my house but thats just me. resopalrabotnick Posted November 14, 2005 CID Share Posted November 14, 2005 might cost a bit but contacting your cable provider and having them rig it ight be an option. that way if modem speed does go down they can't say it's not their fault. inquire first if they support inhome installs they do and get a price quote. If you want the absolute best performance for the cable modem you need to get a SV2GRDC 6 Splitter also know as a TAP. What is does is gives most of the signal power to the Cable Modem, there is no DB loss. I had one on my cable modem when i had adelphia and i got 7.1mbps down and 896kbps up.
