wyantm06 Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 Does anyone know if BearShare is safe at all compared to LimeWire?
Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 I think so. I used Limewire for about a year and a half and just recently started to use Bearshare and downloads are WAAAAAAYYYY faster and its a lot more user friendly. Go for it, i have it had any problems with it.
richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 What is your definition of safe, not getting caught by the riaa, not getting viruses? If its not getting caught as long as you don't upload you will be pretty safe with both limewire and bearshare. As far as viruses if you have a decent antiviruse it should catch any if you happen to download something infected.
dlewis23 Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 BearShare is a hell hole.
richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 Yea the free version installs a bit more than just bearshare itself, at least when I tried it last. Now I'm stickily limewire and bittorrent.

Now I'm stickily limewire and bittorrent. same here i use limewire pro and i get download speeds of over 250KB/s all the time. and bittorrent just maxes out my line. anything you can find on bearshare you can find on limewire or bt. Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 i download files in like 30 seconds or less on bearshare and bittorent is just slow and horrible. Its good to download albums and hard to find songs and movies, but bittorent is just slow as hell.
Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 But thats good if it maxes out your line so it only takes a couple of seconds or minutes depending on file size so you can get it done faster. Bittorent is slow and why would you pay for pro.
richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 Used correctly bittorrent is definately the fastest and most efficient file sharing program/technology.
Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 how is that? it took me 3 days , day and night, to download 4.2 GB of songs. wow thats pretty damn slow. since i can download one album from bearshare in like 10 to 15 minutes. Its the best way to get files.
Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 i dont know what was the reason for that link but on BT that file i was downloading was at less than 75kB/s average was around 45kB/s. I have cable and my transfers are above 1000kB/s on files and on BearShare its uses that much and i can download one song in 30 seconds or less. Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 dont ever use firewalls or virus protection, and that album was every song 2Pac created and it was in one download file. For me BT the free version is slower than anything ive used, not sure what you guys did to make yours seem fast.
richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 By firewall I meant router, you need to forward a port for bittorrent.

richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 Its a torrent file so you need a bittorrent client to open it.
Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 i dont use routers. also what is so special about pro instead of regular limewire and bearshare? i know its supposed to go faster lol, but what else.
richcornucopia Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 Then its possible you were downloading from a poorly seeded torrent, maybe a bad tracker, or you limited your upload to nothing and people were choking you.

Hollywoodx954x Posted December 2, 2005 CID Share Posted December 2, 2005 i think that is it, i dont like to upload things so i put it to 0 slots, also it was from a good health file and it was just going slow, but all of my files are slow on bittorent. Also i am using Bitlord, maybe that i just a bad bittorent client or something. Never mind, my upload rate is at no limit, i didnt touch anything with Bitlord with uploading files.
