_-`chepe-_ Posted December 13, 2005 CID Share Posted December 13, 2005 I recently upgraded from DW6000 to DW7000, they send me the new modem claiming I had not to adjust anything else but to replace it, same satellite etc. The thing is that I am having a hard time registering. I have to go through the installer menu, change satellite, frequency, Msps, and whe I get to the Cros Pol test, I am dead. The modem sometimes will read PASS, Isolation: 00 but then I get to a different screen and it appears to be doing some kind of transmitter test, it takes a long while and then I get the following result: "Transmitter failed to aqcuire or lock a signal" I called Direcway and got to speak to second level tech department but still no way to make my modem work. Any ideas of what is happening here?
lumpy Posted December 13, 2005 CID Share Posted December 13, 2005 I would keep on calling DirecWay trying to get this problem solved. Good luck though, I remember the day when I was on the phone with direcway tech for a hour and a half/
oleol Posted December 14, 2005 CID Share Posted December 14, 2005 I had the same issue with my install, failing to register, or something like that. I unplugged the power cord to reboot, waited several seconds (30+) and when it powered back on, it registered and then went through several downloads and worked. It took about 1-1/2 hrs or so. Any ideas of what is happening here? I had a similar problem, however mine passed the Cros-pol screen.....cant figure out why Dway is sending us refurbished 7000's? The first modem I got (they blamed my low speeds on bad modem) did not have to change transponders and such, it must have been new. The other gripe with this is, if one can go through the "installer set up", one is also fully capable of pointing the dish as well !

fikester Posted December 21, 2005 CID Share Posted December 21, 2005 I assumed my first one was new due to the fact it was already configured for my sat, transponder etc.... when the replacement came I had to change sat, frequency, zip code. Like it already had another customers site info configured. I thought the upgrade was for NEW, doesn't really bother me other than the fact there is issues with speed in the peak hours. Tonight I am at 150 down! 180-200up. I am on the phone with Lev III at the minute......this is not acceptable!
oleol Posted December 21, 2005 CID Share Posted December 21, 2005 For what they want to upgrade and the length of the contract, I would certainly want the DW7000 to be brand spankin' new.....not returned by a disatisfied customer only to be reboxed and sent out. It surely should have been wiped clean before it was sent to you. It is the least you should expect..... I am having interrupt issues tonight and losing the smtp sporadically. fikester Posted December 21, 2005 CID Share Posted December 21, 2005 yes it appeared brand new on the outside, no finger smudges or nothing. they still only seem to acknowledge speed test dome on mydirecway......just told by upper level tech to keep doing speeds there as well so they can document information, times etc....? I know its not as accurate as here, although its somewhat better than the old tests they had.
resopalrabotnick Posted December 21, 2005 CID Share Posted December 21, 2005 so if they ask you to do a speedtest on mydirecway, go to the dish and stick some crumpled aluminum foil on it to the point that the signal is just strong enough to run a garbage test. sounds tto me like they /want/ you to come up with a bad result. so give it to em. frodoboy Posted December 29, 2005 CID Share Posted December 29, 2005 I am currently waiting for a tech to come out and replace the outdoor hardware. I have been (unfortunately) a DirecPC/DirecWay customer since 1994 and have had problems since day 1. When I got the 6000, the so-called techs came out and installed the unit on the side of my house. It fell off about 1 month later! I put it back up and readjusted it myself. It never got better than 40kbps upload, usually around 8k to 25kbps if I was REALLY lucky. My download speeds were usually around 1200kbps however. When I upgraded to the 7000, I was promised the world like everyone else. I too could not get past the last test (just past the cross-pol test). I was on the phone with so many senior techs for hours at a time, I have a whole page of case numbers. In fact, I noticed that every day I called in and got a new case number, it was usually several hundred or even 1,000 higher than the night before! I finally had enough and called to cancel my 7000 and re-commission the 6000. I was given 2 free months service and the whole down time I am having, then transferred to the highest level senior tech (I could even understand him...I think he was in the US!). He had me run the direcpc site speed test and told me that if the outdoor unit was working properly, the upload speeds should be fairly consistent all the time. He decided that my outdoor unit was defective and ordered a new one for me. He also told me that the techs who would install it would have to get me to at least 100kbps upload or I could refuse to sign off on the service and he would find someone else for me! That is quite good for customer service...if that IS the problem! If it is not, I will chuck the whole thing. There are two wireless companies coming to a mountain near me soon and I will switch in a heartbeat to 1,000kbps synchronous for $39/month over this 10 year fiasco!!! They really have you by the gonads if you live in a remote area and that is really taking advantage of people!!! I will keep you all posted on what happens when the unit is replaced.
