wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 For anyone whom has the V4 LinkSys router like I do, which one did you use? I really need to get a boost on my laptop.
richcornucopia Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Do you have a linksys card as well?
wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Yeah the card in my laptop is LinkSys.
richcornucopia Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 You could try and get some antenns for your router to increase the signal output. Pick some up at compusa and if you dont notice a better signal/speed then return them. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=316832&pfp=BROWSE If the antennas dont do the trick then you could get a new wifi card. This would be great, http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/nl3054cbplus.html, 200mW means long range line of site for these can be up to 4200-4300 feet. wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 I prefer a FirmWare update instead of spending money
richcornucopia Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 You could try this firmware it looks pretty cool http://www.dd-wrt.com/. If its compatible you can try some different wireless options and see if the performance is better.
|3v|lon3| Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Or you can use the firmware i am.. its in the top right of the picture.. and look at the bottom u can change the transmit power from the default to the max that really helps on signal boost

compuworm Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 I have a wrt54gs v2 linksys router and got rid of the stock antenna's that came with it and purchased the 7 gain antenna's which you can get a Bestbuy. I also downloaded and run the Hyperwrt Thibor 11 firmware that is based on linksys's 4.70.6. Now, go to the links below: www.linksysinfo.org Register (it will be worth it) and then go to, Downloads. There you could find any possible firmware upgrades based on your linksys firmware 4.20.9. Good luck and Merry Chrismas and have a nonsober new year. |3v|lon3| Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 The antennas that u bought doesnt really matter there is a firmware on that site to where u can increase it to 25 dB on the basic antennas

wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 I got it working. I just can't find where to increase my wireless speed.
compuworm Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Of course you know to only download a firmware that is that based on your make, model, and version of router! Otherwise you can turn your router into what has become to be known as a, "Brick", which I have come to believe is a synonym for completely dead router? compuworm Posted December 24, 2005 CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Do you mean increase transmit power, right? What dd-wrt bin did you ultimately download? Thanks, compuworm

wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Oh and yes I do mean increase transmit power. Can you download the same one I did yourself and help me out?
wyantm06 Posted December 24, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2005 Nevermind these custom FirmWare are causing my connection to drop or something. A thing just popped at the bottom saying you hame limited or no connectivity. So I just went back to original FirmWare that belongs with my Router.
