  1. Thanks Guys , zoomed right in on it ,

I was looking at Mt St Helens St, Rosamond, Kern, California 93560, United States  it looks kinda strange there also ,

BTW you got a mighty big country there

Everything is strange in California :evil6: (kidding Cali folks)

And as for size, It is a 28 hour drive (straight thru) from where reside now (Nebraska) back to Portland, Oregon, where I lived before.

And that is a little less than half way across the country.

I have never been to the US East Coast, though.

No desire, I prefer the mountainous Wide Open West......

  2. Wow , Voltageman , I just did a google earth search for Mt St. Helens

and got a hospital in the UK  :evil6:

I guess the volcano is in the USA  :grin2: near willow springs raceway ?

and have we got any TNM members close ?

    Regards Roco  uk

Hey, Roco, copy and paste the coordinates below into Google Earth and it will center you right in the crater.

  3. The attenuator is acting more like a 3dB attenuator then as a 6dB, but either way I can't see it helping or hurting with the levels your modem is at now.

Maybe there was a return problem back when they put it on there, and now it is fixed.

Modems will run just fine with your return transmit power between about 30dB to about 53dB as long as the plant is properly balanced.

As for the forward, the optimum levels are -10 to +10dBmV, with your SNR (signal to noise ratio, or MER) at 31dB or higher.

You generally start seeing problems at around 30dB SNR and lower, that is assuming your provider is using 256 QAM modulation, if it is using 64 QAM, then the SNR can run a couple dB lower and still be fine.

I would just remove the attenuator and keep an eye on your speeds and stability.

Post some speed test results here just to give us an idea what you are running at with and without the attenuator.

  4. I was reading a local news story about some phony bills from an actual long distance re-seller.

After reading the story, I Googled Buzz Telecom (here) and found pretty much only negative info about the company.

They are a true re-seller, but have been banned in a few states for deceptive practices.

Also is fishy that I could not find a direct web site operated by the company.

So I just wanted anyone here to be aware if they try to sell you over, I would just say NO.

OMAHA, Neb. -- A Nebraska Public Service Commissioner wants some answers from a long distance carrier after an I-team investigation.

At least three different families across the state received these phone bills from Buzz Telecom. They look official, they have the company's logo, address and phone number on them.

Public Service Commissioner Anne Boyle told KETV Newswatch 7 the bills are for the same time period, for approximately the same amount and all dated for November 17.

What's missing is the recipient's phone number.

"It's not far stretched to think this is illegal or improper and that we will put an end to it very quickly," said Boyle.

The commissioner's deputies have sent Buzz Telecom a letter asking the company to respond to the complaints immediately.

The I-team has learned Buzz Telecom has a history of complaints.

North Carolina's Attorney General sued the company in August for deceptive practices. In October, Public Service Commissions in Ohio and Maine said the company couldn't operate there anymore.

Buzz Telecom isn't doing business in Montana either after complaints from consumers.

KETV tried calling Buzz Telecom, but got a busy signal for 4 hours.

  6. My favorite snack is the chocolate covered Ritz crackers with peanut butter in the middle.

I don't bake, I wait for my mother and sister to make them. :cheesy:

    I will attempt the recipe:

    1 - a bunch of Ritz crackers

    2 - peanut butter

3 - The chocolate stuff you heat up and melt over stuff, then it re-hardens (I think it is called "bark" or something like that.)

First take 2 Ritz crackers, spread peanut butter on one, then smoosh another cracker on top of that.

Make dozens of these and dip them in molten chocolate bark stuff and throw onto a sheet pan of some kind and let it cool and harden.

Then eat up up and get fat!!!!

I will try to think of some more professional recipes for everyone. :haha: :haha: :haha:

  7. No matter who you are or what you believe it is interesting to watch. I like it and they are in the process of making another one in regards to other aspects of the attacks.

I watched the whole thing last night.

There are some definite points made by the video, but I got to say I still am not completely convinced.

No one has ever attempted a controlled implosion of a 110 story, 500,000 ton building before (that we are officially aware of).

The tallest ever imploded (officially) was 439' tall.

    http://www.controlled-demolition.com/default.asp?reqLocId=7&reqItemId=20030225133807

The Twin Towers were over 1300' tall and supported primarily by the steel exoskeleton that had obvious major damage to it from the impact (x2, on both towers).

Also, it would have taken at least hundreds of people to pull it off, and no body has folded and sang about their part in it yet after their conscience got to them?

I just can't believe that someone could have put together that many evil, soulless men.

That is my 2 cents, but still a compelling video.

Now that building number 7 may be a different story, though.

I don't want to get into a conspiracy dispute, but this is just what I think about the whole deal.

  8. So you had to run checkdisk /r from the recovery console?

It sounds like this has happened more than once.

Bummer, I wonder if those disk sectors that keep needing repair are bad.

  9. Yeah it looks like there are a couple main culprits.

Hardware (disk failure) or Cable problem.

Windows XP needing to be updated to install critical patches.

I would run checkdisk, or if you are in Windows; Go to My Computer, choose the drive with the OS on it, and them right click the drive, hit Properties, then Tools, under error checking click Check Now.

This will take a while to run.

  10. That's a new one to me.

I found a little info from Microsoft:

    CAUSE

1.The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.

2.You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.

3.The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.

Seems to be a ton of info on Google HERE

  11. Great pictures dn0, but I think for my retirement maybe somewhere a little warmer

is your Elk related to the British Deer ? the picture is of our Red Deer  it is the largest mammal in Britain, we have 6 species , the smallest is the size of a sheep,

    Actually very closely related:

There's too many people in the warm climates, Roco, I will be looking for peace and fishing...

  12. I hear ya. I've also been known to just walk out of a store instead of standing in a long line. Especially when the brain donor at the front of the line has to ask twice what the total is before he/she decides to get out the checkbook and start writing.  :knuppel2:

And I NEVER shop the day after Thanksgiving. Good deals......probably. Major fu**ing headache.......most definitely.

Same here, no shopping on Black Friday.

As for the brain donor's: At Shopko the other day there was a long line and this lady paid for 4 different groups of items separately. I think it was because of coupons; I just about grabbed her by the ear and drug her to the back of the line for each order.

The damned teller should have said NO!!!!

  13. Thanks, Roco, I do sometimes worry about the future.

I will have to learn to take it all as it comes.

Well, just to add, my parents are just turning 60. My mother just when out and bought a Polaris ATV a couple months ago. Maybe I won't have to worry about taking care of her when she can't anymore after all, God love her. LOL

  14. Interesting. I use the console version and the longest a unit has ever taken was on the single core and it took 8 days.

Is that 8 days of 24/7 processing?

This last 50,000 framed WU is my biggest ever, but I still get those week long ones every 3rd or 4th time.

The sad part is I get like 300-400 points for them.

the 1 day long ones usually throw out about 200 points or so.

Well. maybe someone above is trying to tell me that I need to upgrade.....
