  1. you know you did you bad bad boy. see that comcast van parked outside? they are watching you... mwahaha
  2. you need to check make/model of your router and either post it here and hope someone knows the ip or look it up on the mfrs website. oh, maybe also see if you have for some reason got the detect settings automatically disabled in ie/tools/internet options/connection/advanced. maybe kick it out of the device manager and reinstall the driver, call tech support of your comp if it's still under warranty or have the local geek look at it, or take it to radio shack and pay 250 dollars for some pimply faced minimum wage payed kid to look at it for 3 days and tell you that your network has a problem.
  3. hm. what do i say to that? something short. concise. yet somewhat dramatic. oh, i know. <facepalm>
  4. you uncapped your modem and will soon be slain by your isps abuse police?
  5. entering the ip in the address bar is exactly what you need to do. if that works you know that the network card is ok.
  6. that would be the network card. can you access your routers config page from the desktop?
  7. without any further information i'd say your nic died.
  8. will the dual tuner let you record 2 channels at once or just rec one watch one?
  9. interesting. vonage apparently bought the same test. off testmy net i can usually get between 3.3 to 45 down and around 440 up. if the vonage site runs off the server they use for their voip. i should definitely not get it, lol. edit: forgot the link http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=497&category=73&nav=6
  10. control panel classic view, system/advanced check let windoze choose what's best.
  11. what you aree describing is a static discharge, not a permanent ground. we are talking grounding itr to a water main, or the electrical ground of the house or similar here.
  12. sounds like your memory optimizer has a memory leak. and no, not making fun, it's the technical term for when a prog doesn't release memory to the os when it's done with it. uninstall the mem optimizer. should help. and be sure your swap file is on auto.
  13. yeah, what he said. look, mister split personality, i think (insert rant/flame here. not enough energy to waste it on a loser.)
  14. the problem is in the location of the filter. colloquially it is called a filter when it should be more accurately called a splitter. the splitter/filter/widget needs to be on the line before any devices are connected, to seperate the pots from the dsl. what it does is prevent the phones/faxes/answering machines/whatever from putting any noise into the high frequency part of the spectrum the dsl uses and the dsl modem from putting any noise into the low freq spectrum the pots uses. you are getting disconnects because while you are keeping the high freq stuff off the line with the filter/widget/splitter in front of the modem, the phone is completely unfiltered and bleeding crap into the dsl signal everytime it is used.
  15. i take it thge modem has properly synced with his isp. you might need to go into ie/tools/internet options/connections/lan settings and check the autodetect box. if that doesn't work, check to make sure the link indicator on modem and comp are both on, if they are, try a different cable. post your results for further help.
  16. the funny thing is that rom-doses speeds, while nice, should be technically impossible. if intended to be that fast all modems would have been advertised as 140k, not 56k, i doubt the ad department would have passed on the bigger number. i find it more puzz;ling than anything else.
  17. again the dealer might be able to help with info on the exact color.. damn, red sucks, one of the worst covering colors. good luck.
  18. is it at least a solid color or do you have to touch up a mettallic paintjob? maybe just prime it and buy a nice vinyl graphic to cover it?
  19. let me know what works, i got some dings in my paint that i am looking to touch up as well... btw, you might also want to call the dealer if they have a touchup paint that matches your color better than a generic.
  20. then i guess head to your local auto parts store and see what they sugges. make sure to tell them exactly how it looks, if they are good they will even come out to the car to check and see what you need. (of course they might also try to sell you some stuff you don't really need, but that's life, eh?)
  21. alonzo, is your keyboard broken? loose the caps. have a nice day.
  22. so do you have insurance or do yopu have t take care of it yourself?
  23. if it's through the paint and primer to the metal you will want to seal it fast. if the insurance will cover it you should have it sanded priomed painted clearcoated. if not, i suggest you head to pep-boys or somesuch and ask the people there, they will probably have some good tips.
  24. also, look at it from the economical point of view. if a company cannot charge it's customers in an area where there is little or no competition enough to make the installation of a system interesting in the first place, why should any company want to develop high speed internet anywhere if they are forced to give it away at cost, with no chance of making a profit, which is why they are setting it up in the first place. also consider the fact thsat especially for more sparsely populated areas the cost for setting up a high speed data network is substantially higher per customer than say in manhattan. in spite of this most providers charge the same rate nationwide. how would you like to be the fella out in the sticks that gets offered cable internet for 500 bucks a month because chances are that only him and 2 of his neighbours are going to subscribe to the service that meant setting up a new node, lines etc just for that area? that would be fair, because others wouldn't have to pay a little more on their account just so the provider can enlarge the network...
