  1. :haha:
  2. the speed problem may be simply one of distance. awful long way with a lot of possible bottlenecks from there to the server. try reading the two links in my sig and post the info requested, some improvement may be possible. also try to dl from somewhere more local and see if that gives you more speed, better yet find a speedtest site with a local server.
  3. heck, i didn't even post to brag when i broke a thousand.
  4. You are .pdf
  5. open your case. locate your ram sticks. there should be a purple winged alligator with yellowish tufts of fur sitting near it. carefully remove it by coaxing it into a plastic bag baited with an usb flash memory stick. then hold onto the stick through the bag and dump it into the running garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. nevermind the screeching. that should solve your memory problem. unless you have a nest, in which case you should call orkin.
  6. scary. besides looking difficult to fit inside a case that thing looks like it will rip the cpu socket right out of the board, backplate or not, if someone so much as looks at it crosseyed.
  7. sounds more like ad or spyware running amok and bombarding you with advertising popups. edit: never believe a popup window telling you you have problem x. but of course you knew that, x-ing it out.
  8. read the 2 links in my sig, call roadrunner or unplug all cables from modem, open window, launch modem.
  9. see, shug at least has a license, even if he is not using the one he purchased. shug, couldn't you have activated that ripped copy with your legal product id?
  10. :haha: fios in pr. good one. but seriously. infrastructure here is so bad, that very few urbanizations (gated communities) would be hooked up anytime soon. i'm glad that they have cable here. dsl is pretty well spread out too, except for the fact that the local telco sucks, and the connections are sporadic in addition to the telco blocking all ports, with no way to get them to open them. if you want to set up a pcanywhere connection using the standard ports you have to request what they call a 'tunnel' to get that port opened between your ip and the other. and you have to specify that well in advance. so much for ad hoc.
  11. well, even those numbers give it 60 miles across the hurricane force and 400 miles across the tropical storm wind field. meaning that you can by no means call it a small area.
  12. that, and the fact that a 'cane isn't exactly a point phenomenon. the area of hurricane/tropical storm force winds is a couple hundred miles wide for a large storm like katrina.
  13. sounds to me like he /is/ running a stolen xp, and he wants to know how to be able to update it without having to pay for it. and if you tell someone how to operate a firearm, you don't expect him to go out and use the knowledge. if in a certain case you do, you make yourself responsible for what happens. and i fully expect demon2 to use all the info given to him to commit a crime. if sugarcoating it helps you to turn a blind eye, good for you.
  14. frankly i don't know which is worse. this guy saying he would just like to know how to steal stuff, or people telling him how to do so.
  15. two links in my sig. read them and post info.
  16. maybe you should just save yourself the trouble and buy (gasp!) a legit copy.
  17. but playing with a 700 ms ping is still pretty difficult. consider this. you see someone stepping out from behind a corner in a fps. even without the reaction time you will need to aim and shoot, your inputs to aim and shoot don't register until 1.4 seconds have passed. (0.7 to see the person, 0.7 to send commands back) alot can happen in that time. i guess there is some games like rts games that don't require a fast ping, but dialup will probably serve you better. and i know people will complain about me even mentioning it, isdn may be available to you even in the country. gives 2 voice lines or 64 or 128 k data, and that's real, not like a 56 k dialup that gives you maybe 30 or so. decent pings too. the sat connection really is only good for faster dl'ing/surfing.
  18. unless you're playing email chess where it doesn't matter, the lag on a sat link will kill you. in some games, literally.
  19. prove it.
  20. his neighbors are prolly right and his ISP is the NSA...
  21. i have adelphia. of course same problem with outages when the power goes out. (seems like every frickin time it rains) some slowdowns, but i have had pretty good handling by their customer service. i had a complete outage (some tech had pulled my cable at the node) i called, spent an hour on the phone and 4 hours after i picked up the phone a tech was here to fix it. spped is advertised as 3/256 i get above 3 down, usually around 3.5 as high as 4.5 and up is a reliable 440.
  22. that was my next question, how many local kooks think you're talking to space aliens or work for the government or both?
  23. is the chat now well and truly scrapped?
  24. hm. so the cars are in range of the tower? how much was the insurance you'd taken out on it?
