remember you are testing from australia to the us. that will slow you down right there, since the reversal of spin for the electrons traveling across the equator slows them down some and may even result in packet loss. try testing off a site in the southern hemisphere. since the long route causes some slowdown. try downloading off a site closer to you physically and see if the speed improves. your traceroute shows a slowdown at hop 8/9. also read the 2 links in my sig for more tweaking info.

actually i was gonna post it right after you started the thread, but you had a valid question, so i decided to answer. and i figured somebody else might do it eventually.

ok, if noone else is gonna do it, i will. [glow=blue,2,300]PONG[/glow]

well, once you poke into that price range you can always look at the bundles the major retailers put on sale every so often that include a dvd player, amp and speakers. there's usually some good kits around 300 bucks, and if you have an spdif output in your box that you can pump the surround sound through then you can usually hook that up to those.

i meant a chatroom, not a chat. if i want to just chat i'll go talk to my cat. as someone else surmised yeah, the faster response times in the chatrrom versus the is anyone even listening in the forum.
-
um, you meant that as a question didn't you. lol durrrrrr

no, but frank was therapeutic in his own way. -
is there a way to bring the chat back? i miss frank. i've sunken to going to the local chinese place and buying fortune cookies. but they just don't stack up, neither does my magic 8-ball.

well, what package your isp offers are you paying for?
-
welcome. what are your advbertised speeds?
-
holly hell, a usb 1.1 bus powered modem? ok, bomb your isp. or, if you feel like spending a little cash, ask the tech support fraggle at the isp for a list of modems approved by them, and buy one with a network interface, if you have more than one comp/console you want to hook up get one with an integrated router/firewall. maybe try begging the tech support to exchange that pos modem for something better.

post the infoi requested in link one.
-
or post brand and model of router, chances are someone here knows what exact ip the config page is.
-
you're hooked up to the modem by network cable or usb?

incredibly low upload speed in 256/64 kb ADSL connection
resopalrabotnick replied to ilyas's topic in Make it Faster...
your dl isn't up to snuff either. have you checked all cables/connections? are you going directly into the modem or through a router/hub/switch? -
first of all your firewall may be blocking it. look for a block icmp commands setting in firewall/router

web accelerators, pushing the back button?

i thought that would help him. as for not being very nice, look at the post history for him. no thanks for answered questions, the only hint that a problem is solved is a new quesion posted by him.

remember when comparing watttage that there is sine, music and pmpo. sine is the most difficult test fo amp/speaker, sinc it is a continuous sine wave, putting highest load on components constantly. music approximates the load by music, difficult to compare manufacturer claims since they can define music to suit them, worst data is pmpo. that stands for peak maximum power output. in plain english, the bang the speakers make when they are completely overloaded.

can't give advice w/o some more info. read the 2 links in my sig and report back. hoorrrrraaaaa.

not getting what im paying for?
resopalrabotnick replied to streamyx.slow's topic in Make it Faster...
tweaking is easy, you just need to figue out the values or have someone figure them out and then there is programs that set them in the registry foryou. it's no sweat. the traceroute is a command that basically pings every rouer on the path from you to the server you are tracing to. i then displays the 'hops' the packets make on that path as the individual lines in the result.the result contains the ping times to the router for 3 pings and the id assigned to the router. since most providers/backbone operators assign some form of name that gives a hint to the location you can more or less figure out where your data is going and where any bottlenecks are that slow you down. -
yeah, win98 needs to be tweaked for high speed internet. read the two links in my sig, if that doesn't help, post ther info requested, and we'll go from there. good luck.

it's quite a bit of data you're sending on just yourself actually. think about it. position, vector, heading, sounds made, current body posture (the more complex the model the more data that is), equipment worn/used and whatever else i forgot. then youi have the general traffic of the projectiles in flight, shockwaves, explosions (all these for sound lighting collison detection) and god knows what else. all updated fairly frequently.
