  1. if the keyboards you are using are ps2, are you using a ps2 mouse? does it work? can you get hold of a ps2 mouse to test it? it might be a dead ps2 controller. in that case borrow a usb keyboard from someone and see if it works. that might solve it.

(and if you can't borrow one most stores will have the ultra cheapo nonames for like 5 bucks or so.)

edit: try booting to a command prompt. see what the keyboard does there.

  2. i think you got the native american part backasswards. it's no the tolerance for alcohol they have, it is a lack of tolerance that gets them very sloshed off just a little booze. it's a genetic thing. afaik some asians have similar problems. they just can't hold their liquor, and it doesn't break down as fast as normal. the lack of info about the background of the people studied is true.

  3. what the kids need is more chances at a good education.

those that are troubled need someone to take them by the hand on a personal level to help educate them. no matter how bad things are economically, someone with a diverse education in the fields that really interest him can always find a way to make it.

  4. well, they are re-certifying everyone involved in the incident. and if someone gives a wrong order, someone checks out the wrong missile (the one with the warhead still attached instead of the one without it) the crew on the walkaround doesn't catch it... granted, it takes a lot of things to go wrong for something like this to happen, and they did notice it afaik while the thing was still in flight, so the safeguards in place kicked in, if a bit late.

  5. to be honest i felt stupid afterwards for doing it. the roads here are pretty bad and the guy on a scooter can take a fall pretty quickly. and that means i have no way of keeping my truck from bouncing over him. the problem with most motorcycle and scooter riders here is that they seem to ignore every rule of the road. especially the younger ones will blatantly run red lights and weave through traffic where they can. and in dense traffic it is dangerous because you always have to keep a lookout for some yahoo on a crotch rocket zipping around like hell on wheels. i know that i have nothing to worry about sitting in my truck but just the thought of mangling one of those guys is worrisome. even worse are the riders of non-streetlegal rigs such as minimotos, dirtbikes and ATVs. they ride around with what seems like no regard for even their own safety.

  6. Teen binge-drinkers are more likely to use drugs, become alcoholics and have criminal conviction, research shows.

A study of 11,000 children found by the time they reached 30 they were 60% more likely to be an alcoholic and nearly twice as likely to have a conviction.

The Institute of Child Health study comes as latest figures show the amount children are drinking is rising.

Experts called the findings worrying as the government said it was looking to cut the harm caused by youth drinking.

The researchers looked at the drinking habits of 16-year-olds in 1986 and then compared that to what had happened to them by the time they were 30.

    This study makes worrying reading

    Frank Soodeen, of Alcohol Concern

The study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, found they had developed a host of problems compared to those who were not binge drinkers.

As well as being more likely to be alcoholics and have criminal records, they were 40% more likely to use illegal drugs, 40% more likely to suffer mental health problems and 60% more likely to be homeless.

They were also 40% more likely to have suffered accidents, almost four times as likely to have been excluded from school and 30% more likely to have gained no qualifications.

Just under a fifth of the group was classed as binge drinkers - those who had "two or more episodes of consuming four or more drinks in a row in the previous two weeks".

    'Social exclusion'

Lead researcher Dr Russell Viner said: "Adolescent binge-drinking is a risk behaviour associated with significant later adversity and social exclusion."

And he added policies needed to focus on a range of areas, not just restricting the availability of alcohol to teenagers.

It comes as figures show that the number of school-age drinkers has fallen slightly, although those who do drink, drink more.

NHS Information Centre statistics show boys aged 11 to 13 who had drunk in the previous week drank an average of 12 units of alcohol in 2006 compared to eight in 2000, while the intake of girls increased from just under five units to eight.

Alcohol education now has a higher profile in schools across the country and is a major part of the national curriculum

    Department of Health spokesman

Frank Soodeen, from Alcohol Concern, said: "There is a significant minority of young people who are drinking from ever younger ages, and with greater quantities than before.

    "This study makes worrying reading.

"It confirms the view that early alcohol misuse can effectively haunt a young person well into adulthood, with all the implications to health and wellbeing that that can imply."

A Department of Health spokesman said the government was determined to reduced the harm caused by young people drinking.

"We are preventing the sale of alcohol to children by cracking down on irresponsible retailers and working with the industry to reduce underage sales of alcohol, while continuing to educate youngsters about the harm of alcohol abuse.

"Alcohol education now has a higher profile in schools across the country and is a major part of the national curriculum."

  7. Two South African women have been burned to death after a group of students accused them of bewitching their high school with evil spirits.

Msaba Zungu and Thabitha Thusi, both 60, were seized from their homes near Manguzi in KwaZulu-Natal province.

Students and adults dragged them to a sports field where they were doused with petrol and set alight on Sunday.

Manhlenga High School pupils accused the women of being witches after they began to suffer strange crying fits.

Investigators said Ms Zungu died at the scene and Ms Thusi later succumbed to her burns injuries on Monday.

Police captain Jabulani Mdletshe told the BBC News website: "On 17 August, the students at the mixed high school began to cry randomly and they did not know why.

"The students held a couple of meetings and allegedly decided the problem was these two women were witches who had cast a bad muthi (spell) on the school.

"At 8pm on Sunday, some of the students and community members allegedly took the women from their homes to a football field and set them on fire."

No arrests have been made but police are following a positive line of inquiry, said Capt Mdletshe.

  8. there was no way he could have used WMD's anyway , the wrath of the word would have fallen on his head

hate to disagree wwith you old boy, but he does have quite a history of using WMDs on the iranians (granted, who cares) and kurds in his territory. and with him in the running to join the nuke club, developing a rocket that could reach israel and his proven willingness to use WMDs the thought of him having them is scary. it's like with te iranians. their rethoric against israel in particular combined with their quest for a nuke tipped rocket to reach em is downright scary.
