Well I guess I'll put in my 2cents worth in,I believe rwin is one of the easiest things to adjust to achieve higher speeds. But as someone just said there are many, many tweaks the registry being another. Now if we are talking about tweaks only for speed I suppose there is a finite number that you can do.My guess is there would at least a couple of hundred some making large speed increases some small. To me the fun is what I learn while doing this, now there are also cosmetic tweaks which would also number in the hundreds (my guess). So to me it doesn't matter if I call it a tweak or farting around,it still fun,and I guess thats what most of us are doing here......Like I sometimes say tweak till your weak!!!(pretty lame hun) microwave

Ah Mort, Dont stop lorne from having all that fun tweaking the bios...no just kidding I email lorne and warned the same thing, but I did encourge him to look at the bios when booting because I think everyone should know every nuk and crany on their machine.I now tell people you cant hurt anything by looking and thats true, but when I first started using a PC it was to pgm. phone systems and just high lighting something it very often changed the value and caused a lot of problems(for me anyway) well that was back in the day and its a lot different now thank God.So go eye ball that bios but make sure you write it down and it is almost fail safe cause it ask are you sure you want to do this?As you said flashing can be a major pain...Have fun guys........ microwave

changing your number will have no affect on your line, they will be using the same two copper wires to take your connection from your computer to wherever,Once again you are stuck with what you have as long as you keep the same connection. There are many things causing your low speed.....distance to the C.O. etc..etc........sorry if anyone has any other solution they will post~~~~ so like I said keep coming back, but I can not offer any other fixes. ) Yes lucky for me when I edit my reg I can always use DEC but it also has hexa right there and I always look at it,but I always edit in dec or I would take hours figuring the damn thing out. microwave

( you have a ping time of 177ms to 188ms,I just tested mine it tested at 52ms to 58ms,so you say so what right!....Well the way to look at this ping time is when you tested to this site what happened was a signal(ping) was sent from your computer to this site and back.the ping time you are getting is very high(meaning long time round trip)your ISP is at fault, but in their way of thinking they are probably within the time frame that is acceptable to them.Bottom line the party is over, you will be unable to get any more speed from your PC.The only alternative is get a new ISP or dsl or broadband or anything except what you got, that is only if you feel the need for speed.......sorry it looks like for you it doesn't get any better~~~the good news is you are welcome to test and post even tell your friends to visit, but plain and simple your connection just wont go any faster.. x microwave

? As I stated in that post I was under combat conditions ha ha my browser had been recently JACKED,but I do stand by the statement that when I test to far off places IE Europe,Australia, south America my "normal" speed is reduced by about 50%.It is also not unusual that testing in U.S. that there can also be a 50% difference in testing several times to the same site in succession, what that says to me is at any given time speeds do vary given the traffic at that precise moment. This may not be a correct analogy but to me its like driving across town, the trip time is determined by the traffic at that time of day or nite.Thats why when I test, to be sure of my "true" speed I test many times at different times for more than one day.But I'm singing to the choir because these are things that I'm sure you already know.Thats another reason when someone ask I always say do lots of testing to try and arrive at what your average speed is.Something a friend used to say at work is even though something shouldn't be happening in fact it is happening..... thats why I love this shit,I used to laugh when talking to people when I would be on site and they would be out of state and they would tell me that its not possible for the equipment to do that,my standard response was ya better come tell the machine cause I don't think it knows it cant do that...hehehe.anyway as long as were having fun thats all thats important(in my opinion).Keep testing and tell your friends to visit the best testing site on the net.... ) microwave

RaWIDZ ) Thats a very good idea that VanBuren gave you,try it and let us know....Im not quite clear on your timing of 90 sec or 70 sec,so post the ping time and that will give us a better idea whats going on.For instance when I ping this site my time is usually around 50ms and my TTL51.So post the response from the links and someone will try to help. microwave

RaWDIZ ) VanBuren is correct that link should help with tweaking and its pretty easy to use.Download=save to desktop, open, click optimal setting, reset and see if improvement occurs.Thats the generic way it is possible to tweak further I think its important to do many test at different times of day to see if anything has changed. If you dont see any improvement you may have other issues, but try this first Im not sure if you are asking about settings in modem setup if so I always had mine set at (I think)115,000 even though you wont get those speeds it just allows it to go as fast as it can.Let us know....And thanks VanBuren for the suggestion I was having a brain fart I think.....haha oops http//www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe microwave

) wmlarry, You cant argue with success and if your PC is running at your optimum speeds etc weather the settings are "right" or "wrong" doesn't really matter much,as long as your happy. I agree with your suggestions on your prior post.Oh BTW I think your speeds a pretty good with satellite. microwave PS Dont go lurking we enjoy your company, and you are always welcome here, ca3le guy is the only expert.Keep visiting and posting and tell your friends to visit.Your ideas do matter, the free exchange of ideas is only one of the concepts that make this the best site on the net......

) VanBuren + wmlarry, Hi when I saw that MTU# I thought the same thing until I saw it was satellite, then I realized all bets are off so to speak. As ca3le guy has pointed out in other post satellite has a latency issue that must be addressed somehow, hence some settings are much different than broadband or dial up.Anyway glad to see old and new friends posting at what I think is the best test site on the net no matter what your connection may be.This stuff is just way cool!! microwave PS If I remember correctly the 1460 to 1500 difference is to address the header issue,if thats not right maybe someone will "school" me...

cool Thank you, Like everything else on the net as that software says one size does not fit all. I happen to use TCP Opt... although I don't think one is better than the other its just TCP Optimizer works easier and better for me.I have a friend who swears by DR TCP. In any case you did the most important thing and shared the info for other "tweakers" and thats a cool thing. If you enjoyed the site come back and tell your friends, our thanks goes to the man who did all the work for this site< ca3le guy headbang headbang Microwave
