good point i didn't even think of the after Christmas sales. yea its for my sister and i doubt she will be playing any games. most likely just for internet and homework.

if i wanted to look around the internet for a new graphics card what are some good websites and what am i looking to pay? i don't need a top of the line card just something that isn't the cheapest but doesn't have all the top of the line features.

i am assuming that their is no problem with the computer itself just with and monitor and or video card. just out of curiosity how much would a new video card cost?

wow i really hope it isn't that, but i will check that in the morning. ill give it a try but i tried two differnet monitors, maybe the video card got a little loose when i took out my pci card

so my dads friend gave me a computer, its about a 2 year old dell which was better than my 6 year old gateway. so my sister decides she wants a computer and i figure ok get her a wireless adapter and she'll be all set. well low and behold i unhook that computer and put it in her room until i get time to set it up for her and then about a week later i hook it all up turn it on and something weird happens. the computer boots up like normal, then the windows xp screen loads (the one with the blue loading bar) and then the screen just says no signal but the computer is still running. if anyone can help me that would be great.

true thats a good point. plus im only 18 so i dont have a credit card yet and my parents are always worried when they put their credit card on the internet and i can understand why. but buying locally would be best too, no shipping

im not worried about documents and all my programs are already on disc. so i should be good to go just replace the hard drive with a new one and use the my system restore cds right?

i have a set of system restore cds that came with the laptop with xp on them. would they work?

how do u get the 30/5 package for $55 a month i thought that package was $200 a month. you are lucky you can get those speed i cant even get 1Mbps upload in my area. whats your upload like?

i looked at the link that peepnklown posted for laptop components and i found a hard drive for my laptop. what would be involved in switching hard drives? it is very complicated and some what basic. i am not worried about any information on my computer just want it to get running normally

i am in the same boat with richcornucopia, my neighbor got a new computer and i got his laptop. 1.7Ghz processor and 512ram but the harddrive keeps having disc error and i cant even turn it on now any ideas?

i plan on attending UCONN next fall and i was wondering if anybody out there currently goes there and could post some speed test results. i heard 10Mbps in all dorms and 100Mbps in some newer dorms and i just wanted to the bottom of that. plus my curiosity wants to know what kind of speeds i will be dealing with.
