  1. Yeah, I'm getting much better, I can sorta use a computer now. (for those of you that don't know, I was in a motorcycle accident. Had to have surgery to put my hand back together). I get out of my cast in about a week and a half. This ordeal has made me realize how much I use my left hand -- and although I only had the left hand messed up I still couldn't even use a computer with just my right hand because I tore a ligament (it didn't break just tore a bit) in my right shoulder. It made it really hard to do everything for a long while. But the shoulder is about 75% better, still hurts like a bitch sometimes but not nearly as bad as it was. I was so messed up that I couldn't (for a while) even wash a dish because it required me to lift my arm up to sink height and although I could do it I REALLY couldn't do it because I shouldn't do it, because I'm guessing that a hardcore shooting pain that runs from your fingertips all the way to your backbone is a pretty good indicaion that your body is telling you DON'T DO THAT DUMMY! - It was weird because the first day I didn't even know I had really hurt anything, the real pain took a little while to set in. And my hand was so swollen that I didn't even know it was broken for two days... then I was like "ummm, I don't think that's supposed to bend like that..." -- and then at about day four my right shoulder turned a black red, I guess that blood was pooling in my arm (nothing like a bruse). I have a nearly 1/2 sleeve shoulder/arm tattoo that's very heavy black tribal and there was a large portion of the tattoo that couldn't be seen because of it, lol. Anyways, back to the database stuff... mySQL just crashed after my query... I thought that query might be too big.. WHOOPS!
  2. Had a few problems with the score database this morning as some of you may have noticed. I'll be working this morning on optimizing it to alleviate the problems and to free up some system resources on the server. So please bear with us this morning (and most likely this afternoon), the site may lag out for you a few times during the process because the commands I need to run are very resource intensive. For the moment the score signature image that some of you are using as your signatures will be disabled, this is because that image is drawn on the fly by the server and a query of the score database is needed to perform that action. At the moment I have no ETA but I'll be working nonstop on this until the database resource choke has been alleviated. I'll update this post and close the topic once I'm finished. While I'm at it I'll be optimizing the other various databases but since this is preventative maintenance those services will not go down nor will they have issues related to their optimization, although, any and all portions of the site that are database driven (pretty much everything) could have issues if any of the commands I perform in mySQL get bogged down... but I'll try and make sure that my queries are small enough to avoid any further issues. Thanks for your patience and patronage. - Damon ~ testmy.net owner/admin Update: Database optimization is done, everything should be fully functional, took longer than expected but it's done now. Sorry about the downtime folks. -Damon
  3. What would be funny is if his weak ass little girl thumbs snapped off. The name of the procedure "whittling" is enough to scare me... as if the doc is whittling your fingers like he was a hick sitting on a porch whistling the Andy Griffith tune as if your fingers were a peice of oak... lol Yeah, he's a fuckin tool for sure.. But it's not that bad to alter your body... I WOULD TOTALLY alter my body to better fit technology but nothing like this... I'd go for a brain implant to download data though -- that-would-be-SICK! But that doesn't make me a tool, it makes me a CYBORG! A really, really, really kick ass cyborg!
  4. Site down :: It was just a reboot thanks for your patience -D
  5. That's what I figured, because the image that you posted didn't have the "Ads by Google" logo. I wonder if those guys that put that adware out there make good money at it :-/ -- bastards stealing my adspace -- lol
  6. I have disabled the mirrors for a while, I need to get the mirrors section rebuilt. Many of the mirrors have been taken down by the owners. After I do a few other things with the site I'll be rebuilding a whole new mirror system and I'll start aquiring mirror donations. -Damon
  7. yeah... it's either that the owner of that website has clicked the link in the google ad on here (the one that says "advertise on this site") and specifically requested that his ads be shown here. OR you may have some kind of virus, spyware or adware that's replacing my ads with the adwares authors ads. It's pretty messed up but that kind of stuff is out there. If you guys see that ad again or any ads like it please send me a PM telling me what the web adress is that the ad points to so I can go into my ad system with Google and filter it out so that it's not shown again. Just know that testmy.net does not place ads of this kind here on purpose and if I notice something like that I filter it out of my rotation... just like we also don't show casio or debt consolidation ads... they're stupid and annoying and have nothing to do with the content that you're viewing here. Again, shoot me a PM with the URL of the site so I can filter it out... I still haven't been able to see the ad myself. - Damon
  8. WOOT.. I stayed up tonight and got my desktop PC back online... got all my programs installed and am testing nice and fast :::.. 10. Yeah, it did slow down with that file... but the overall speed was still faster than 12Mbps (because of the fast start of course). It ended up at 1.55Mbps or about 13Mbps. The start of the download was about 1.8MB/s or about 15.1Mbps and the reported speed in the IE download was progressively going down after about 300MB but even at 50% of the 4GB transfer it was still averaging 1.67MB/s. But as I said in my PM to you, in almost all real world downloads I'll be seeing powerboost enhanced speeds. I'm still trippin' out that I've gotten over 2MB/s!! This time last year I had 9Mbps which is a little over half of the max speeds I'm seeing today. 100% increase of speed in only one year... Cox Communications ROCKS! I just left a voicemail for my friend who works for Qwest (Cox's biggest competition in Arizona) and told him, "Dude, your company just simply can't compete with this... unless you guys do fiber. Over 17Mbps! And Qwest has a max in Phoenix of 7Mbps, that's only 4Mbps shy of being 3 times faster..." then I made an evil cackle and hung the phone up. lol. I'm sure that this time next year Cox will have a 30Mbps package in Phoenix... maybe even faster. Cox had better watch out, if they keep this up they're going to start getting sued! Customer houses are going to go up in flames from their modems catching fire, haha . AMAZIN' and BLAZIN'! -D
  11. ahhhh, that explains it. I thought about that when I visited the Cox website earlier, I was checking to see what the speeds were listed on their sales site, the max I saw was 12Mbps and it said "with Powerboost", the speeds they have in AZ are "Lite (512 Kbps)", "Value (1.5 Mbps)", "Preferred (7 Mbps) [includes PowerBoost!
  12. WOOT! Hummm... did Cox boost the 12Mbps package up or something? Because I'm getting 15-16Mbps now. For the past month or so I've been getting shitty speeds, it was driving me up the wall... but then I realized that I hadn't even tried to reboot the modem and my routers, after a quick reboot I'm now getting CRAZZZY speeds. I thought maybe something was screwed up or something (made me second guess the setup of the new server... thought maybe the server was doing gzip compression or something) but I double checked the apache build and it looked fine. Then I did a flat-file test at http://www.testmy.net/o-000'>http://www.testmy.net/o-000 and I got the following results... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 16076 Kbps about 16.1 Mbps (tested with 20972 kB) Download Speed is:: 1962 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net Test Time:: 2007/08/01 - 2:45am Bottom Line:: 280X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.52 sec Tested from a 20972 kB file and took 10.687 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 162.25 % faster than the average for host (cox.net) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-P54B3FTSX User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; InfoPath.2) [!] I even downloaded just a regular file off the server and IE reported the download at 1.7MB/s or 14.2Mbps and I saw it spike a couple of times during the download to 1.9MB/s or 15.9Mbps -- I'm not complaining or anything........ I guess I'm just bragging -- SO NIENER-NIENER-NIENER--- my connection's craaaazzzy! -D
  13. Thanks for noticing, I totally agree. I couldn't be more happy with the end result. I wasn't very happy DURRING the transfer but the end result makes it all worth while
  14. Well you're getting a little under 1.7Mbits here and a little over 1.7Mbps there.. and only 1.5Mbits at the other site. It would seem that testmy.net is sitting right in the middle... it must be right -- haha Your discrepency isn't enough to start jumping to conclusions and worrying, when your upload speed is nearly 2Mbps you're going to see different results every now and then. Other people do too but they're scores are too low to notice, as long as it's not over like 10% it shouldn't be something to worry about - Damon
  15. The new server is a Dual Opteron 2212 Dual Core Processors, 2 x 250GB SATA Hard Drives, 2048 MB RAM, 100 mbps uplink on a dedicated switch connected to theplanet's 100 gigabits/sec uplink to the world with dirrect connection to all the majoy tier1 providers (AT&T, AboveNet, Savvis, Verio, Global Crossing, Level 3, Time Warner Telecom, Cogent). It's a very nice setup, Before I was running everything on 2 dual XEON 2.8GHz with 1024MB RAM each connected to the same network. So the new server is basically as strong if not stronger than the two previous servers combined. Originally when I placed the order for the new server I ordered one with Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core Processors, but they had a deal for the Dual Opteron 2212 Dual Core Processors that was like $80/month cheaper so I took it. I'd rather have intel but the Dual Opteron 2212 Dual Core Processors are pretty nice and they're comparable, both 64bit, both 2GHz, both dual-core... the L1 Cache is bigger on the Opteron but the L2 Cache is bigger on the Intel... and the Opteron is 90 nm while the Intel is 65 nm. I this it's just crazy the amount of power they can pull out of 2GHz now... like with my Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz --- runs like WAY faster than my previous Pentium D that was overclocked to like 4GHz... and it runs at nearly room temp because of how optimized it is. It runs so cool that with the CPU heatsink I have I can actually turn the fan off and it won't get over 114*F under load... granted the cooler I have is pretty crazy but it's still just crazy how much better the Core 2 Duo is over the old Pentium D (the first dual core that Intel came out with). As for the opteron vs woodcrest deal, actually my host put both online for me (they messed up on my first server order and put it in the wrong data center).. so I got to test out both. And the Opteron actually felt like it ran better. Well at any rate, even if it is a tad bit slower I could care less because it's saving me nearly $100/month -- haha. ttyl -Damon
  16. Okay, the score database is online, on the new server... and has been optimized quite a bit. I'm going to spend most of my day tomorrow going over every single little detail on the server, triple check that everything is correct and running right. At the moment the server seems to be running great and looking at the CPU/MEM load it's running quite optimal. Although, I must say... it was quite a headache to get everything joined together back into one server. But it seems to be done. For some reason or another some of the tools I was using to make the transfer easier kept on failing, causing me to spend a ton of time... I polled out most of my hair -- haha Enjoy guys! I'll make a post tomorrow eve after I've taken time to give everything a couple of passes to make sure I didn't miss anything... then I'll get to all my emails and PMs that I've been neglecting for MANY days now - Damon
  17. Well... I actually got all the database info over without a problem but I had forgot to write up my custom mySQL configuration that I use and... well... without custom config to deal with the number of database hits this site gets (many of which are coming from the score signature images being posted on many many thousands of sites around the net) it ended up crashing the score database. I had no idea how long it would take for the server to catch up to itself so I just did a hard reboot which in turn completely imploded the database, lol... it seriously just disappeared. I can't even find the raw database file on the server. Ehh, anyways. I'm just going to leave the score database on one of the old servers for tonight and take care of it when I wake up. It's 3am now and I'm way too tired to finish this tonight, well ...this morning. haha I'll update the thread once it's finished. While I'm at it tomorrow I'm just going to optimize that and all the other databases. I have my work cut out for me tomorrow ttyl guys! - Damon
  18. Allright! New server is up and running, all configured and ironed out. One final stage of the transfer is being completed, the scores database is currently being moved. I should have that done pretty soon. But I've got the main stuff over and I've tested it... even if your DNS hasn't updated to the new server yet you'll still be making posts to the new servers forum database. If you want to see if your currently on the new server (completely) go to the home page and if you see a message in red that says "NEW SERVER" that means you're allready there (click here to see what the page 'should' look like if you ARE on the new server). If you don't see that message yet don't worry DNS propagation can take a while for some people and if you don't see that message and you'd like to run a test off the new server here is the link to run a dual test. I'll make another post to this thread once I have finished getting the scores database over. - Enjoy the nice clean new server! - Damon owner/admin
  19. This is still going on, actually my host put my new server in the wrong datacenter and I didn't notice untill I was seriously minutes from finishing the transfer. But they got ANOTHER server online for me in the right datacenter and it's running MUCH better than the POS they originally set up for me. I'm waiting on a few tasks to finish, then a few final touches and this headache of a transfer will be over with. My ETA for the DNS update is some time tonight, although it may take up to 72 hours for your ISP or your local DNS cache to get the new DNS info telling them where to find the new server --- as I said before, you'll know you're on the new server when you see a nice welcome message on the site index... also, you'll only see one server option. There will be no more 'server 1' 'server 2' deal. Be down to one simple option... only one server but more power. And once needed I'll be switching the server over to a 1Gbps uplink, I've already looked into the option. I'll keep you all posted tonight. Please note that there may be a loss of a few posts durring the couple of minutes it takes for me to make the transfer nearly transparent. tty-ALL-l - Damon
  20. Just to let you guys know, testmy.net is in the middle of a very large server transfer. Over to a more powerful server. If you experience any problems over the next few days just note that these issues are most likely because of the transfer and you need not make any posts about these problems because I'll most likely be working on any of the bugs while you would be writing your post. Though, if you notice any problems AFTER I make the "Welcome to the new server" post (you'll also see a notice on the home page to let you know that you're now on the new server) then please let us know of any problems. I have limited times to make the transfer (unless I want to pay HUGE fees) so please note that I will have no time to respond to PM's and emails until after I've finished the transfer. I've already been in this transfer since the 22nd but now my host has actually gotten the issues with the new server ironed out (they better give me a break on the price! haha)... I just had issue after issue, and this stuff happens every time I get a new server with them, stuff like IP addresses not able to be provisioned. But I got a message from them a little bit ago letting me know that they got the kinks out... so give me a little time to get all the data over and get the new server configured correctly to be able to handle as much traffic as TMN gets and look forward to our new faster server. It has enough power to take over the tasks of the two current servers... See you on the other side - Damon - owner/admin
  21. Happy birthday America!! And everyone have a very safe 4th of july! -Damon
  22. what type of connection do you have? I have a 1Mbit upload and the results I get are right in line with that. :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 889 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 109 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/06/30 - 12:10am Bottom Line:: 16X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 9.39 sec Tested from a 1496 kB file and took 13.78 seconds to complete Upload Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 33.08 % faster than the average for host (cox.net) U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-637CEO1IL User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; InfoPath.2) [!] (though I'm running a little slow right now, but that's because there is an upload going on with one of my other computers). Give me some more info about your connection adn who your provider is... and watch out with the mirror results. Those servers are donated and if the persons server is down or having problems your results will be off. I'm in the middle of transfering the site off the two current servers onto one monster server, so after that transfer is done (they just got my server online and I'll be spending the weekend getting everything squared away) you may want to retest. So look for a highly visable notice on the front page talking about this. -D
  23. Wow, that's some pretty nice speed you got there already. What more are you hoping for? What kind of package do you have right now? - also list you system specs so we can better help you. - Damon - site owner/admin
  24. Oh, the servers always break the bank... it takes allot to host a site that's this popular. But I'll actually be saving a few bucks a month going to the one super server instead of the two less powerful servers (that are still really super servers, lol) It looks like the new server is going to be a Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core Processors Hard Drive(s) HDD: Two 250GB SATA RAID Hard Drives 100 Mbps Uplink 2048 MB RAM (I may change this to 4GB, I'll try with 2GB to start though) So it's basically a quad-core system with a shit load of resources. I currently have two Dual XEON 2.8 GHz servers with 1GB ram each and two 80GB drives on each. So this will be a nice upgrade for us and the single server setup will simplify the whole setup. Single server setup was impossible when I ordered the current servers because my host didn't have packages with enough bandwidth to suit our needs. But they now have packages with enough bandwidth and I'm sure in the near future they'll be upgrading the packages (they've been doing that every 6 months or so)... so as our traffic grows and our bandwidth needs go up I'll be okay and won't have to worry about bandwidth overages. I just gave my host the go ahead to get the new server online so look for this nice upgrade in the near future. I'm sure that the already fast page requests will be even faster and overall reliability will go up as well. -D
