Looks like just hours after your last post you started to become more stable. Much more like your results right before that massive spike. Did you find something that correlates with that anomaly? Maybe an installed program or proxy of some kind? That spike was SUPER abnormal. --- and then immediately after, you had issues. ?&t=u&d=03122019&x=30&l=500&q=rfiveash's Speed Test Results

This was an issue with Daylight savings time. I got your message on Sunday and quickly fixed it. Sorry I forgot to respond back. Should be displaying the time correctly for you now.
-
Log into that account and make a post here so I can find those results.
-
All fixed. Thank you for the heads up!
-
I'm glad it's helping you! All of your results are there, you just might have a filter enabled. Most likely the number of days is set. e.g. If you click default, then click "Export" it will export all 33K+ results you have saved. How ever your results are filtered also affects the export filtering. Let me know if this helps.

I see what you're talking about and will fix it tomorrow. thank you for reporting this.

The IP he posted from is different, look by his username. Looking back through your TMN history, going back to when you joined in 2016, I don't see any history of you consistently scoring that high. Your highest speeds were recorded when you first joined. And they were far from consistent. This looks more stable -- Looks like about 2/28/19 you started to encounter inconsistencies. Where are you located in the World?

Good to know, thank you for following up.

I cleared cookies in Firefox, used a VPN to connect to TestMy.net through Spain (this doesn't show unless you're in the EU)... cookie consent came up, I accepted and was surfing through the site. It just shows a small "privacy settings" link in the corner after accepted. And you're certain that cookies are being accepted? If it's unable to set the acceptance cookie it will continue to ask. By the way, this is called a CMP or Consent Management Platform. Used for EU GDPR compliance. Trust me, I don't want that on here in the first place. It's annoying... but I want to comply with EU regulations. I'm looking into different CMP's right now actually. I have some other options that are less invasive that I'm exploring.

I'll get that added back on there for you.

Does this work well for 1GB bandwidth speeds
CA3LE replied to rsteph49's topic in General Discussion
Since day one, this has been designed for all broadband. The server-side is always connected with a minimum of 1000 Mbps. There are many servers in rotation at all times, especially if you select Dallas under Test Servers. You're usually testing on a server with nobody else testing, connected with 1000 Mbps or greater. Works awesome on my connection. Even when the server is thousands of miles away. 200 MB download test (single thread - testmy.net default) 200 MB download test with Multithread enabled If my connection were running better the multithread and single thread results would be right on par with each other. Is that a gigabit like Comcast wants me to believe? No. But those are the speeds I'm actually able to download at. I'm not complaining. Gigabit is new here and they're still building it out. Could I complain and get a credit... probably. Upload is right where it's supposed to be. The connection is also really stable. Run an automatic speed test if you want to gather your test history over time automatically. -
I've been using Vultr since 2015... yeah, IBM bought softlayer and it all went to shit. Oh well, time to give them back the LAST grandfathered server... they killed the bandwidth on purpose. Deals like mine, had to die. They want all the old customers DEAD -- gone. No joke. Well, you win IBM. BYE! I never wanted to be on your platform in the first place... WAY to rich for my blood. In hindsight, I should have picked up your linode link -- you turned me on to them long before I used them.
-
Bravo VULTR VPS (you get $50 free on their platform with that referral link). Edit: found a better link (above) -- I like this better because it gives you $50 to play with. All I did was move the same thing to a better host. I tested them in Dallas before... been a while, they've obviously stepped it up since then. They're kickin' ass wherever I test them actually. -- exact same configuration as before, better host. I'm building a better self auditing system that will be doing benchmarks between the servers more in the background automatically. Hopefully that will alert me in the future if a server or cluster of servers starts to under perform... hosts that continue to under perform will be marked for replacement. My users should never notice this in the future. But I may provide ways to show you that it's being done in the background.

Dallas servers are all switched out to a different host. I put 10 new servers online in Dallas tonight. This will better parallelize tests. Basically when you test... there's an even better chance that you're testing on a server all by yourself. Also relocated DE and added a 2nd DE server, again to help parallelize. I see better results on both. Dallas for instance... TestMy.net Test ID : a_jeL_PBv I was consistently below 200 Mbps before on the same test. I see improvement, I hope you do too. ? ?
-
Heads up: I'll get all of the Dallas servers switched out within the next two weeks. I have servers much further performing better for me personally. Testing between servers I see good speed but on my client-side they aren't routing as well as they used to. I feel it's on their end and it isn't getting better, so... the host and servers will be replaced. I'm always looking for better performing hosts anyways and it literally takes 4 minutes to replace a mirror (once I pick one) so no big deal. Give me a little bit to test out some fresh Dallas hosts. I have to switch out various hosts sometimes, nothing unusual. Your input helps. Please use the mirror option to select a different hosts if you feel like Dallas is under performing. But please always inform me like you did if you feel something is persistent and affecting more than just one connection. I've had multiple people now inform me of lower than normal Dallas results. IMO -- Pulling off 4 different servers in the same datacenter... it has to be related to the peering in that datacenter. Goodbye! By the way, the new version of TestMy.net will allow you to select not only the location but the specific server for the location. I plan to diversify my bandwidth over more providers more and give you the option to select. The difference between what I'm offering and my competition is that I have to pay for all of my bandwidth out of pocket. My website and all of its resources are hosted where normal websites host. I don't have donated bandwidth or servers (nor do I accept them... at all). In my opinion this is only truly unbiased if I host like everyone else. --- another thing that different is that I don't think that you should test TOO close by. I'd say put at least 1000 miles between yourself and the server for a real result. Anything less is too easy. If you can perform at a distance, that's the real test. Everyone wants to get the big score while they ignore the true result, at a distance. I used to get 30 Mbps to the UK... now I get 125 Mbps. TestMy.net Test ID : f0NuzHlmR Is that what Comcast sold me? HAHAHAHA, no. This is "1000 Mbps"! "GIGABIT BLAST!!" (whatever they call it this week. Not gigabit service.) Los Angeles gives me my best results right now. TestMy.net Test ID : l19Qz1yBv Is that Gigabit... Still, no. And then I multithread and get... Still not gigabit. So I try speedtest.net (hey, maybe I'm the dummy, even though my test has done the same thing since the dawn of high speed internet... I could still be wrong) --- and get the expected best case scenario, 12 ms ping, multithread result. Even best case, that's not 1000 Mbps. Let's check Comcast (Xfinity's) test, real best case, right? wrong. ...the same test as speedtest.net/ookla -- it's made by ookla so it's not surprising. But even their own test has me at <50%. Actually, ---I'm going to request a credit next month. 50% is unacceptable. Obviously this next part isn't meant for a TMN vet like you @bigmakow (nearly 8 years as a member) -- you already get the idea by now but for anyone who's new to testmy.net... keep in mind, I'm not trying to be your friend with my results but if you use them properly you WILL see an improvement. I always make friends in the end with the truth. Hold them accountable. Ever realize that when you order service they PURPOSELY make you not want to call them back. It's part of the 'plan'. So make sure to mess up their plan and call them back when they don't serve you properly! Make them pay for not delivering on their promises! They effed up your internet, so eff up their little no call back plan! I've made my providers pay MANY times over the years. THIS... is by far the most extreme level of NOT delivering on package speed. >50%!!!!! Even admitted by their own account. Multithread to UK, pretty much across the world. 4500 miles direct, much longer by wire. Don't get me wrong, it's a good connection. But you can't sell this to people and call it GIGABIT INTERNET SERVICE! --- BS. --- that's multithreaded!!! Liars! Truth is, they set up service in an area and then pray that people don't complain before they get the REAL speed available in the area. ("let 1 out of 10 complain while we roll around on our MONEY! MUH HA HA HA!) I originally made this service so that we can BOTH have proof why our bills should be credited when we aren't getting what we pay for, when they aren't providing what they quoted us. --- (actually, I originally made this for myself and it was an accident that anyone found it. True story.) "...sell it before you can deliver it. -- two years later nobody will notice, then do it all over again! WOOT-WOOT! We're in the monnnneeeeyyy." I'm only 37 but I love me a 1930's Gal! When you see your landlord and you can look that guy right in the eye... THAT'S when you know, ----you're Comcast. ... and then once they have a grip on everyone (everyone is in debt to them), the ISPs parade out and start speaking tongues... To get it, keep watching till the end... I hope at least one other person think this is funny.

I guess they couldn't have known ahead of time. @mudmanc4 when did Google announce the change? Was this days ago or weeks ago?

Thanks dude, more help than Invision just gave me. Clowns. One dude in particular has been replying to me since 2017, thought he was really on the level until just now. UHHHH, patch! WTF! I asked them for a patch just now. Dude, if I have to go in and patch this myself... mark my word. I will replace Invision... in a heart beat. Actually, please post your IPB (Invision Power Board) alternatives here and I'll post a vote for any that can make the grade. I have a lot of users who login here with Google. If they don't fix it, I will... and then BYE BYE invision, there are alternatives! They're actually already out of time ... let's get a poll going!

Google login will be temporarily disabled. Click "forgot password" if you don't remember setting a password. Thank you for reporting this. Seems like every so often Google updates the security with that. Breaks my google login here every so often. This is the first time it's not connecting right back up. Seems like they want something verified by a human and it says it can take up to two weeks. /sigh -- I guess I modified my logo they had on file a while back. But it also had an alert for G+ permissions I don't really think that's the issue though. I think that change has been sitting there for months... I just never realized that you have to hit "Submit for review." -- guess the "Save" button isn't enough for Google. Pretty much sounds like it's working on their end. And if it wasn't... I'd really expect it to error on the initial click, not after the password is entered, verified with google and login starts to initiate. They should email me when it's done. (again, I don't think that's the real issue.) Until then I have an email out to Invision (the authors of the forum software here), they'll probably shed some light.

Sorry it's not working properly for you. Do you have cookies enabled? Pretty sure that's the issue. I can see how I can improve that and remove the dependency of that cookie. It's actually already partially built in. Currently your time zone offset is detected with javascript, it then sets a cookie (I call GMT_bias). This cookie in turn triggers a database call to action where it saves that setting to a database... it continues to check your timezone in case it changes and will then update that database setting. The actual setting is supposed to be read from the database but there was an error in the code that was causing that variable to be cleared. The cookie is actually left over from previous versions, before it saved that to a database. It can be rewritten to save the setting without the cookie. What I think happened on your machine is that you may have disabled cookies or blocked TMN's cookies. This is the only instance I could see where the bug was noticeable... it erased your offset and set you to the base time of GMT. I was able to reproduce this by blocking TMN's cookies in Firefox. I then unblocked cookies and refreshed the page twice... the first page load captures and sets the cookie and then on the subsequent page loads the GMT bias is set properly. (this is my real time, loaded after re-enabling cookies) But, it really shouldn't have done that. It's supposed to look to the database setting. I pulled your settings table up in the database and it was showing GMT-7... doubled checked mine and it was still set to GMT-7. I then realized that it was being unset because of an overlooked statement... something that ran in my head when I wrote it but closer inspection showed that under THIS circumstance... it will essentially clear the setting. I actually never expected people to disable cookies, when it was originally written I don't think browsers even offered that. The statement has been fixed. So now, as long as you've previously set the cookie it will remember your setting properly in the database and even if you disable cookies it will work as it should. If you haven't already set the cookie before, then it won't work right now. You'll be set to the default, GMT. But it's noted on my list and I'll make sure that's rewritten to to remove the cookie dependency. It's no longer necessary, it was a hack to begin with.

It may be routing, I'll test the Dallas servers out from a bunch of different locations and get back to you.

How long would you like to run a test for? It would be the same test you've been using, I'd just unlock the ability to run it longer. -

CA3LE replied to CAPSL0CKS0N's topic in General Discussion
Especially with your speed, averaging (last 7 days)... ... I wouldn't want my connection partially degraded every 5 minutes. The test will try to use as much bandwidth as it can. As a result the internet connection to any computer on your network will slow down during the test. Depending on the connection this may or may not be noticeable. My own connection, I can never tell when it's running in the background. Locally or elsewhere on my network. But a much slower connection, especially if it's shared over a network, you may feel that. I limit the amount of time you can do 5 minute tests because most people really shouldn't be testing THAT frequently for super extended periods. Many people do and if it helps you I'm all for it. Who am I to tell you how to use TMN?...... in many ways, over the years my users have showed ME how to use this. What if I offered you a paid option, where you would have your own PRIVATE test server, maybe something like $6/month? And a premium version that's $3/month that offers no ads and additional access to private but shared servers that have the ability to run tests for as many days as you need. So $9 would get you no ads, your own private test server and access to additional private/shared test servers.) -
Can you force the test to run FROM a specific IP Address?
CA3LE replied to Bill Hand's topic in HELP! With Tests
Information I found for you on Policy Based Routing Your router would have to offer that feature. But if your router does load balancing... it may be in there, let us know the model number.
